Lily and Tulip as sibilings??

We already have a daughter, Lily and we are expecting another baby girl! we love floral names and have been thinking of Tulip, but we aren't sure if it's too weird since not many kids are named Tulip (we are also afraid she'll get picked on). What do you think? We were also thinking of names like Lavender, Hazel, Holly and Daisy.

Tulip??? Are you serious???

zingally · 12/02/2021 15:29

No, no, no. Tulip is absolutely awful. There are so many better alternatives if you want something floral/plant life.
Rose? Hazel? Willow? Flora? Holly?

I think from your options of Lavender, Hazel, Holly and Daisy, I’d go with either Lavender, though I’m not too keen on the nickname Lav, or Hazel.

Other suggestions would be:
April
Cassia
Daphne
Heather
Iris
Ivy
Jasmine
June
Marigold
May
Poppy
Primrose
Rose
Rosemary
Sage
Violet
Willow
Wren

Hazel is a really lovely choice.
My favourite floral name is Dahlia.

Delphinium with Delphi for short! Grin

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/02/2021 08:14

Tulip sounds bloody horrible imo.

Violet
Willow
Hazel
Iris
Rose

all much nicer options

Linny88 · 13/02/2021 08:23

There’s a little girl called Tulip at my son’s nursery and honestly, every time her dad calls her name or says, “I’m here for Tulip” I just cringe - it just sounds silly and a bit try hard.

Ellmau · 13/02/2021 12:37

Tulip just feels like you're trying too hard.

Iris is lovely, or Rose.

Amaryllis for something a bit more unusual?

Pepperlypue · 13/02/2021 12:57

One of my friends is called Roseanne. She goes by Rosey now but I absolutely love her full name.
I’d say hazel or holly from your choices x

StellaOlivetti · 13/02/2021 14:01

I don’t have my glasses on at the moment and I read it as Turnip! I think I’d prefer to be called Daisy rather than Tulip, it’s not an easy name to go through life with imo.

cafedesreves · 13/02/2021 14:43

Tulip is a name derived from Persian Tulipan meaning turban.
There's an MP called Tulip Siddiq.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_Siddiq
Her family are of Bangladeshi origin I think.

EdgeOfACoin · 13/02/2021 15:04

I was just about to mention Tulip Siddiq!

I think Hazel would be nice with Lily.

MimiDaisy11 · 13/02/2021 17:33

I wouldn't be so daring as to use Tulip. I'm not usually into quirky names but I think it's cute.

user1493494961 · 13/02/2021 18:12

Poor Tulip will definitely have drawn the short straw. Not keen on Lavender either, growing up we called the toilet the 'lav' or 'lavvie'. There are many lovely flower names to choose from.

niknakpak · 13/02/2021 18:24

Personally I'd hate to be called Tulip and would be quite angry with my parents if they had saddled me with that name! But when I think about it that's strange because other similar flower names seem absolutely fine. So maybe it's all just what we're used to hearing as appropriate names.

toomanypillows · 13/02/2021 18:40

I know sisters called Poppy and Tulip aged 13 and 9)
There has been no bullying or name calling - Tulip loves her name because it's unique.

ChocOrange1 · 13/02/2021 18:48

Lily is a really popular flower name. Tulip is a really unusual flower name. For this reason I think they clash somewhat. And I dont really like the "lip" sound.

I think Hazel is lovely. Both Lily and Hazel are nature names but not too overtly floral, and both are well known names so the flower association is less overt.

strawberriesontheNeva · 13/02/2021 19:42

I think it's sweet and cute.

Lalliella · 13/02/2021 23:35

Tulip and Lavender are awful, sorry. Also don’t like Poppy, it’s a little girl or pet name. To me Daisy is always a cow. And Hazel is a nut.

Prefer Violet, Iris, Rose

mustbebetter · 13/02/2021 23:36

Violet?

houselikeashed · 14/02/2021 00:18

Lol!
When my daughter was little she had a routine, that at night, I had to say "night night Tulip" and she would say "night night Violet" back to me!! Neither of us are called Violet or Tulip.

It lasted years!

AlwaysLatte · 14/02/2021 00:25

I'm not sure... lots of people will pronounce it Choolip rather that Tulip which would bug me. I would prefer Rose. Do the names have to match?

Rubybluesy · 14/02/2021 00:38

Nooooooo

Rubybluesy · 14/02/2021 00:40

Lavender is terrible
Try Hazel, Poppy or Violet
