Is this name too sexy?

We are due a baby girl and have always loved the name Ruby, it has sentimental family connections...but coupled with our surname I'm just not sure. Her name would be Ruby Hart does she sound like a burlesque performer? Nothing wrong with that profession, but not sure I want it connected to a baby and would she be taken seriously as an adult?

What do you think?

Sexy is a weird way to describe it, I think it's a beautiful name but Ruby Hart to me does sound like a stage name. Still a nice name though.

I like Ruby but I'm afraid I do think combined with Hart it sounds like a name of a burlesque act.

Hmmmm Ruby's a bit naff now, it had its moment. Yep I think Ruby Hart does sound a bit 'take the first letter of your surname... to make your stripper name' things. Sorry, you did ask! Heart = is red = is Ruby - it does sound a bit much. I wouldn't.

Yes sorry Ruby Hart doesn’t sound great. Sounds like a playboy bunny or dancer.

I think it is nice.

Honestly unlike PPs I wouldn’t think anything of the sort. Ruby is a nice name and Hart is a pretty generic surname. It’s a nice, compact name with a touch of quirkiness. I didn’t think of burlesque or porn at all and even now it’s been pointed out I don’t see it tbh!

Ruby is fine but as it’s also a common noun and an adjective so you have to be careful about what you pair it with. Any surname that is also a common noun (or a homophone of a noun) will also need careful handling.

Ruby Hart will come across as Ruby Heart, you’d have the same problem with any colour or gem name, eg Sapphire, Amber, Hazel, Violet.

You’d also have similar issues if you went for virtue names eg Joy Hart, Faith Hart. And some nature names might conjure up different images to the ones you’d welcome eg Bear Hart, Peach Hart.

I’d personally also avoid all S names to avoid S.Hart.

Reading that back I’m amused by Violet Hart - Vile At Heart!

I think it’s a perfectly fine and ordinary name.

I think '1940's gangster's moll with a heart of gold'.

I quite like it actually.

Maybe as a middle name, but as a first name with the surname is does sound like a fictional character/stage name etc

It does sound like a stage name.

I don’t think it’s sexy but I do think it sounds like a name of a character in a crap detective novel. I’d think again to be honest.

I love it! Picturing a double agent burlesque dancer, fighting crime by day and feathers at night

I quite like it TBH! Dont think it sounds like a Stripper! When has Ruby "had its day"? This is an old name been going for years surely!

Scarby9 · 03/02/2021 12:16

PS. Roxie Hart is also a great name.

I think it sounds lovely tbh, 'Ruby' isn't too unusual nor is it super common and 'Hart,' as pp said, is a generic enough surname. 'Ruby Hart' would make me think nothing more than 'that's a pretty name.' 🤷‍♀️

I really like it and think it’s a strong sounding name. Ruby did have a surge in popularity a little while ago, but that’s because it’s a lovely name and that wouldn’t put me off at all.
