Thinking of using Mae/May/Mai as a middle name for Clementine...

Firstly what do you think? And which spelling??

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 18:48

I know a lot of people are liking Clementine Joy but I'm just not a fan, I don't think it has the elegance of Clementine Olivia...

I like Clementine Ophelia

Or as suggested above
Clementine Elizabeth
Clementine Victoria

I think it can carry a longer middle name

micc · 18/08/2020 21:39

@worriedmama1980
So weird my daughter is Clementine Elizabeth! Great suggestion in my opinion!! Also jeeze louise some people have a thing against the name Clementine!! Its just a lil orange guys chill Haha it's a great name, really bright, sunny, classic and beautiful :)
I think I've spoken on one of your posts before OP! Haha, I think Olivia and Grace are the best suggestions, and it seems you like them the most too!
Both are beautiful and suit the name, I personally think I like Grace more :)

daisypond · 18/08/2020 21:58

What other first names did you consider? Can you use one of those as a middle name?

Raindrop87 · 19/08/2020 08:55

I agree, it's funny how Clementine definitely provokes quite a reaction from some! I think it's such a beautiful name and I'll be sticking with my choice...it's just a case of getting the middle name sorted!

Flappingflamingo · 19/08/2020 10:32

Definitely clementine grace!! 😍😍

Raindrop87 · 19/08/2020 12:33

It's funny that for such an inoffensive name Grace also seems very marmite! Lots of people saying it's the equivalent of Louise from the 80's?

I get that Grace/Rose/May are overused middle names but I think it's just because they go with everything? I also don't think it's as bad when you go for a less common first name like Clementine?

Torn between Grace and Olivia?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2020 14:24

Olivia. It's nice but overused as a first name.

Grace to me is quite a harsh sound. I know a Grace in her thirties and she's lovely, and the name was quite unusual at the time, but it seems just a filler middle name.

Raindrop87 · 19/08/2020 14:40

I get that Olivia is overused as a first name (although it's top of the charts I've never come across any Olivias bizarrely?!) but this would be as a middle name - Clementine Olivia

daisydalrymple · 19/08/2020 15:51

My Nana was called Grace. She would be 99 now. I think Grace / May / Rose were very popular names in the early 1900s, and so have become so popular now as people started to use them as a tribute to a family member, then others started to like them too as they hadn’t been used for such a long time. Unlike Elizabeth / Victoria / Charlotte / Alice etc which have remained moderately popular, so never over used.

daisydalrymple · 19/08/2020 15:56

My dd has Sofia as a middle name. (Chose that spelling as her first name is welsh and it suits the first name much better). It was fairly popular at the time she was born, but flows beautifully with her first name.
Raindrop87 go with Olivia if that’s the one that sounds right to you. I suggested Ophelia above as it’s fairly similar to Olivia if it’s the popularity concerning you. I do think Shakespearean names would flow well 😍

Threelilducks · 19/08/2020 15:59

I love the name Maeve but had two ds's

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2020 16:10

Yes, I got that OP, but it is more unusual as a mn, so it gains back what is lost when a name is overused.

Olivia Clementine would be oh, another Olivia, but swap the names around and it's a pretty and not overused middle name.

Clementine Grace would be one of many Something Graces.

Raindrop87 · 19/08/2020 16:13

I do like Ophelia but I worry that Clementine Ophelia might be a bit fussy? 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
AgainstAllOdds1 · 19/08/2020 16:31

Clementine Nicole
Clementine Marie/Maria
Clementine Rhian
Clementine Erin
Clementine Ivy
Clementine Jade
Clementine Wren

Raindrop87 · 20/08/2020 06:54

Clementine Wren is interesting, it seems to be a name which is popping up more often...

OP posts:
FizzingWhizzbee123 · 21/08/2020 18:06

Clementine June
Clementine Eve
Clementine Faye
Are the nicest suggested so far. I think a one syllable middle name is best with such a long first name.

Honestly, I think Grace and Olivia are a little dull and overused, although inoffensive. It sounds like you want Clementine Olivia, which does flow ok despite being very long. If it feels right to you, go for it. You don’t need (and won’t get) full MN consensus.

Other suggestions

Clementine Belle
Clementine Skye
Clementine Hope

Raindrop87 · 21/08/2020 18:16

I think I'm just really torn as nothing feels right...I'm hoping a suggestion will jump out at me but it's not happening so far!

OP posts:
micc · 21/08/2020 19:02

Clementine Jane?

Danniiaddy · 22/08/2020 01:29

I think you need a one syllable middle name but I do agree that May is a bit overused. We were thinking god using Rae as our DD middle name to honour my grandfather but all our family hated it!

Here are a few ideas:
Blythe
Brooke
Faye
Grace
Hope
Joyce
Kate
Maeve
Pearl
Paige

Namechange8471 · 24/08/2020 21:22

Why a middle name op?

Clementine is lovely on its own.

A daft middle name takes away its appeal.

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfthigh · 24/08/2020 21:35

Blythe is lovely.

Delilah... less so. You do know what she did in the Bible? You might as well go for Rahab ('The Harlot') or Jezebel.

Clementine Jade
Clementine Pearl
Clementine Beau
Clementine Rae
Clementine Fay(e)
Clementine Sian
Clementine Pia
Clementine K(e)ira

Raindrop87 · 24/08/2020 22:25

I don't know why a middle name...I suppose a name just feels incomplete without one? 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
namenerd · 28/08/2020 01:39

I quite like the traditional 'May' spelling but also don't mind the more modern 'Mae'.
I think that Clementine Grace or Clementine Joy is so cute also 😍

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/08/2020 01:53

Clementine Robyn
Clementine Tamar
Clementine Beth
Clementine Lorna
Clementine Quinn
Clementine Ivy
Clementine Leigh
