Thinking of using Mae/May/Mai as a middle name for Clementine...

Firstly what do you think? And which spelling??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Flappingflamingo · 18/08/2020 08:45

I like clementine grace but one of my daughters has grace as her middle name so I'm biased 🙂

fmlfmlfmlfm · 18/08/2020 09:01

The clementine I know is called clemmie x

BelfastNonBlonde · 18/08/2020 09:08

May

worriedmama1980 · 18/08/2020 09:13

I don't think Eden works. What about your middle name, or your mother or grandmother's names or middle names? I really liked as a child that my middle name was my grandmothers, I liked that there was a strong link with my female family. I also liked that all my names were the names of queens- I think having some kind of story for a middle name is nice.

Clementine Victoria or Clementine Elizabeth are nice, I think find a strong female role mode, within or outside the family, and go with that.

JanewaysBun · 18/08/2020 09:16

May
The other 2 are ridiculous imo and are a bit chavvy
It's a blah name generally though. It's this generation's Louise (which in itself is pretty but overused in the 80s). I agree with PP Mary is very pretty and Clementine Mary sounds lovely.

How about you DM/GM you could use one of their names?

Lpeach1 · 18/08/2020 09:19

Some very strong opinions on here... I personally think Mae is a lovely middle name!

Palavah · 18/08/2020 09:31

Clementine Eden is great!

bruffin · 18/08/2020 09:39

@Palavah

Clementine Eden is great!
NO its horrific. Eden is a really awful name for girls, very pageant spoilt little girl name. Clementine is sweet name and Eden really clashes
MikeUniformMike · 18/08/2020 09:46

Eden is downmarket. Around here it is a chain of bookmakers.
It has become popular as a bay's name because of M. Hazard.

As a girl's name, it has become popular because of the Eve, Eva, Ave, Ellie, Evie, Edie trend.

Due to the need for a longer name on the BC for when DC becomes a High Court Judge, , and Edie being a bit nicknamey, parents not mad about Edith as a full name now use Edie.
Cf. Archie/Archibald/Archer and Frank/Frankie/Francis/Franklin.

Eden is a perfectly nice surname.

MikeUniformMike · 18/08/2020 09:47

Oops.

not mad about Edith as a full name now use Eden

Either way it will just be Ede.
Awful.

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 10:18

Ok so May and Eden are off the list! 🤣

Contenders left in the running are;

Clementine Olivia
Clementine Grace

OP I really took a shine to Clementine Celeste, which you mentioned a couple pages back! I think it has a lovely ring to it.

Of those two, I like Olivia. Grace is just as "bad" as May imo ("bad" because both are lovely names but just overused as middles and come off as a bit filler, like others have said).

I understand the inclination to want a short middle but really, I think as long as you avoid 3-syllable ones, anything will sound good with Clementine. 1, 2 and 4 syllable names all good.

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 10:31

My husband wasn't keen on Celeste...

I know what you mean about Grace being so popular...we already know a few people who have used it so that goes against it. It's a nice name though!

Agree with PP that Mai is Welsh for May and pronounced My. There is also a Welsh word, mae, pronounced My.

Clementine May is the nicest of those three options. Clementine Mary is gorgeous.

Clementine:
Marie
Maria
Sophie
Sophia
Eve
Louisa
Lucy
Ivy
Ruth
Sarah
Fay/Faye
Rosa
Alice
Joy
Lydia

I think Rose, Grace and May are popular middle names as they go so well with a lot of names.

Palavah · 18/08/2020 11:53

Clearly I dont socialise with enough downmarket people to know they're calling their children Eden.....

My only concern would have been appearing too enthralled by 20th Century Conservative PMs....

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 12:41

I know...who knew it was so downmarket! 🤣

Oneandabean · 18/08/2020 12:46

Clementine Olivia is my favourite. It flows nicely and sounds really pretty.

Raeven · 18/08/2020 12:56

I chose Mae 21 years ago for my daughter as her middle name and still love it for her.
It was hugely popular in the late 90's (so I found out after).

NameChange84 · 18/08/2020 12:58

May is the best

Mae reminds me of Mae West

Mai for May is just so bloody awful I don’t know where to start.

Raeven · 18/08/2020 13:01

Ooops I see that you removed it from the equation.
I like Clemetine Grace because a single syllable works better after the three syllable first name imo
Both Olivia and Grace are lovely names.

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 15:17

Another to add into the mix as I've seen a few posts on the name recently...Clementine Delilah?

OP posts:
semumm · 18/08/2020 16:15

Clementine Jean is awesome

LightDrizzle · 18/08/2020 17:06

If you prefer one syllable then I like Joy, as suggested by a pp.
It is a happy name!

GinWithRosie · 18/08/2020 17:24

Eve
Anna
Faith

Carouselfish · 18/08/2020 17:39

I like Mae because of Mae West.
