Thinking of using Mae/May/Mai as a middle name for Clementine...

Firstly what do you think? And which spelling??

Mae! Clementine is lovely.

Me again...another to add to the list...what do people think of Clementine Neave?

Clementine is lovely, I think the May spelling goes best.

Squeakerfoot · 13/10/2020 18:46

What about Clementine Maya/Maia or Clementine Mabel as similar but less used variations?

Or Clementine Margot?

We used May as a middle name for a variety of reasons, only thing I would say is make sure it sounds ok with your surname.... we thought it sounded ok, did the initials etc etc. but then when we wrote it down it makes a sentence so for example ours is similar to this..... Florence May Sing. We actually only had one person point out that Florence May Sing but she may not. Tosser Grin

Clementine Olivia is beautiful but think about what her full initials would spell before deciding on it.

If your surname begins with a W, for instance, I’d avoid.

May is definitely the best spelling. Mae looks soooo tacky (Rae is worse though) and I would pronounce Mai as My.

Neave is terrible. Niamh is lovely!
Heh1991 · 14/10/2020 00:54

I’d choose May or Mae...not a huge fan of Mai x

May etc is awful and done to death. Never know how to pronounce Clementine. What about Holly, Faith or Louisa?

MercyBodle · 14/10/2020 03:18

I love Clementine - what a beautiful name! I actually think May makes a lovely middle name with it too. May/Grace/Rose appear a lot as middles because they work beautifully as middles. I would choose May (this spelling, but Mae is okay too) over Grace as I think it flows a little better, but both fine. And I do like Grace too.

Clementine Olivia does sound very elegant and I like that too. But you may prefer a shorter middle. Wren is another good option. I like your earlier ideas of Evie and Millie too. I dislike Delilah and don't think it goes well with Clementine, and the 2 names kind of compete rather than compliment if that makes sense?

And I agree with you that it's lovely having a middle. Names are lovely, why wouldn't you want more? I love having a middle name and would have been very happy to have 2.

Personally, I hope that if Clementine Mae is actually your favourite that you use it despite this thread!

These may already have been suggested as middles:
Daisy
Flora
Maisie
Maeve
Blythe

I wouldn't over think how popular a middle name is, it's not going to be used much so just go with what you like

Doubleyikes · 14/10/2020 05:32

I love Clementine. It’s a beautiful name. If I were going for May I’d stick to the traditional spelling. Other ideas :
Hope
Eve
Mary
Alice
Thea
Leah

itsjakeandamy · 14/10/2020 09:15

Definitely May.
I love it as a first name but it's such a boring filler middle name. I agree that Clementine Mary sounds so much cooler.
I love Clementine though.

Firebird83 · 14/10/2020 19:34

Not keen on the Neave spelling. I’d go with Niamh or Neve.

AlwaysLatte · 14/10/2020 19:37

Mae/Mai is awful and done to death.

olympicsrock · 14/10/2020 19:52

Clementine Grace is lovely.

Pudding01 · 14/10/2020 20:26

Clementine Ivy
Clementine Olivia (which I have seen a few times)
Clementine Matilda
Clementine Florence
Clementine Lily
Clementine Faye
Clementine Eve
