Thinking of using Mae/May/Mai as a middle name for Clementine...

Firstly what do you think? And which spelling??

Clementine is lovely.

I’d stick with the conventional May for ease.

Oneandabean · 17/08/2020 16:56

Definitely stick with may, although if you like mae what about Maeve as a middle name? I like clementine Olivia too

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 16:58

@Sunhorse That's it, with a 3 syllable first and surname I was thinking something short would work best...

Oh I missed the bit about it being a middle name.
How about Zoe?
Or...
Lou
Louise
Rose
Marie
Olivia
Ophelia
Alice
Violet
Rae
Eliza(beth)

I like May and this is the best spelling. It's a really pretty month and you should keep the traditional spelling.

Undervaluedandsad · 17/08/2020 17:05

I used May 12 years ago - no regrets.

Orphlids · 17/08/2020 17:10

Clementine is a brilliant name. It doesn’t sound like an STI. If you’re sure about the middle name, then I’d spell it May. But I’m afraid I agree with PP that this has become an almost ridiculously common choice. As you’re choosing such a fabulous first name, I think you might as well keep up the good work with the middle name.

Faye, Joan, Celeste, Vida, Fleur, Portia, Isolde, and Greta all sound quite exciting (to me - you might think they’re all bloody awful!)

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 17:13

@Orphlids I get what you mean, May is a bit of a cop-out and she deserves an equally fabulous middle name!

All suggestions welcome!

I do like Clementine Olivia...not sure if it's a bit of a mouthful though?

Clementine Celeste has got me thinking too...

Maybe drop the middle name and keep it simple?

bruffin · 17/08/2020 17:24

May is my adult dd's middle name, it was also my DM and DGM middle name . They were born 1912 and late 30s. They were also Welsh. Its a timeless name really

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 17:43

I definitely want a middle name...it's just finding the right one...🤔

I like with PP suggestion of Fay/ Faye.

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 18:53

Rae works because it is a scottish surname, but Fay is much classier.

I'm not keen on Clementine. Clem sounds too much like phlegm.

Flappingflamingo · 17/08/2020 19:04

Clementine may
Clementine joy
Clementine kate

Thefaceofboe · 17/08/2020 19:20

Love Clementine May. I think it keeps it classy where as Mae / Mai / Mei seem to be commonly used as a name filler.

Thefaceofboe · 17/08/2020 19:21

Also I agree with pp ^ Clementine Joy is lovely. Sounds like a happy name :)

NomDePrune · 17/08/2020 19:25

June?

Palavah · 17/08/2020 19:25

Definitely one syllable then

Kate
Kaye
Fay(e)
Rae
Anne
Faith
Hope
Claire
Shay
Raine

CodenameVillanelle · 17/08/2020 19:25

May/Mae/Mai was a pretty middle name in 2001, overused by 2010 and by 2020 has become almost a parody of itself.

Bassettgirl · 17/08/2020 19:29

May is lovely. Mai is German... Maia is alright though. I really don't like Mae.

June is lovely Smile

20viona · 17/08/2020 19:32

I prefer mae

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/08/2020 19:42

Better to give no middle name (or a family name, or your maiden name if DD will have your partner’s surname) than a filler name imho. Clementine is beautiful.

wishing3 · 17/08/2020 19:43

Clementine May or Mae are both gorgeous!

Ellmau · 17/08/2020 19:50

May.
