Thinking of using Mae/May/Mai as a middle name for Clementine...

Firstly what do you think? And which spelling??

May. The other two have become so chavvy.

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/08/2020 20:00

I think Clementine June sounds really beautiful, it makes me picture a little girl in a sunflower field (just me?) I think a short middle name is best and I agree it should be as fabulous as Clementine or it might just feel a bit...pointless? If that’s the correct word.

Enderman · 17/08/2020 21:20

It is ridiculously overused. Every girl who doesn’t have Rose or Grace has May as a middle name, usually hyphenated. It’s the Louise of the 80s.

I don’t think it actually goes with Clementine (which I love).

I think something longer can work.

Clementine Alice
Clementine Elizabeth
Clementine Isabel
Clementine Sienna
Clementine Maeve
Clementine Mabel
Clementine Rebecca

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 21:57

Yeah I think I might move away from May...

Grace was another on my list, why are some middle names so overused? 🙈

May. The others are overused / chavvy.

TheoneandObi · 17/08/2020 22:07

The best iteration is May. I in fact associate it with the wild flower/bush. Mai is odd - would you pronounce it like the French month of May? Mae is too try hard. Loads of Ella-Mae's and the like around too

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 22:07

I see a pp point of view about May/June not being used if not a significant month and it wouldn't be as will be a November baby...

Welshy here, agreeing with previous posters that Mae and Mai are Welsh words both pronounced 'my'.

I think you're right to stay single syllable, seems better.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 17/08/2020 22:13

Clementine felicity
Clementine joy
Clementine Amanda
Clementine annalise
Clementine sophia
Clementine juliette

I am liking longer middle names

Zhampagne · 17/08/2020 22:18

If you are keen on a link to her birth month then perhaps:

Clementine Topaz (November birthstone)
Clementine Autumn

This post from the British Baby Names blog has some thoughts on naming a November baby.

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 22:31

I think Clementine Olivia sounds quite elegant...

OP posts:
Firebird83 · 17/08/2020 22:58

Clementine Olivia is much nicer than Clementine May.

SemperIdem · 17/08/2020 23:54

Clementine Olivia is lovely. Aurelia would also work.

Of the May spellings I would only use May.

octoberfarm · 18/08/2020 03:18

I love Clementine Niamh, Clementine Eve and Clementine Wren.

ElaineMarieBenes · 18/08/2020 03:36

I like Mae!

Tavannach · 18/08/2020 04:11

Yeah, I like Mae too. Like Mae West, long gone Hollywood actress/comedienne.
Not so keen on Clementine though... "tene" or "tyne"? I prefer Clemency.

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 06:09

I get that Clementine isn't for everyone but we love it so that's a certainty, it's just a case of middle name...

Lidlfix · 18/08/2020 06:19

My DD1's middle name is May after a much loved family member. She hates it and thinks her name sounds like a country and western singer. She at 22 has used it as social media name as she's an NQT and pupils will never find her. But her first is only two syllables.

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 06:42

Clementine Evie?

OP posts:
Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 06:43

Clementine Millie?

OP posts:
Zhampagne · 18/08/2020 07:44

I don’t think Evie or Millie work. For one they are nicknames which is odd for a middle name, but to my ear the ‘ee’ sound is fussy after the ‘i’ sound in Clementine.

Clementine Eve
Clementine Evelyn

Raindrop87 · 18/08/2020 07:50

Clementine Eden?

OP posts:
MissMarplesHandbag · 18/08/2020 07:57

Clementine Olivia is lovely.

Enderman · 18/08/2020 08:15

I don’t think Millie or Evie work either. And they are also immensely popular, although not as middle names I guess. Millie and Evie are faddy names.

Clementine Olivia is lovely.

AnaadiNitya · 18/08/2020 08:18

We have Mae as a middle name as it was Dh grannies name
