Surname and middle name are both one syllable so we want at least a two syllable name (middle name will be John).

Names I love that have been vetoed:

Raphael / Rafael nn Rafi (my absolute favorite but DW thinks it’s pretentious)

Jago (too ‘nicknamey’)

Rohan (Too ‘wet’)

Milo (Nestle milk)

Oscar (she had a fish called Oscar)

Tobias nn Toby (just doesn’t like it)

Names she likes that I don’t:

Rhodri
Ezra
Jonah
Sebastian

We can’t use a name beginning with El as it would be too matchy matchy with our DD which is a shame as we both like Elijah, Elliot and Ellis

Other names we both like but can’t use as they already belong to close friends or cousins are Arlo, Issac, Theo and Reuben

There is one name neither of us dislike (Jacob) but neither of us love it either. Please wise Mumsnetters there must be a name we haven't thought of yet??!

A vote for Jago over Lowen.

ItsNotChristmasInOctober · 06/11/2019 13:25

I've got an Eli and an Ezra so I'm not going to be much help. That said;
Shay (I know it's only 1 syllable)
Joshua
Noah
Israel

I like Jago, prefer Lowen. I think you are over thinking the Lowen being tall thing. It's a lovely name. (And yes, does make me think of a brooding man, but in a "Cornish period drama hero" sort of a way, rather than a "twat who won't dance at parties" sort of a way!)

NoSquirrels · 06/11/2019 13:27

Jago- you’re clearly both drawn to the JJ thing, so go with it! And it was at the top of your ‘names I love’ list in the beginning, so win-win if DW now agrees.

Cbeebiesrehab · 06/11/2019 13:45

Definitely Jago! I think it’s cool sounding, easy to spell (bonus for starting school) and is unusual enough without being weird. I like it a lot!

Mama1980 · 06/11/2019 13:50

Lowen is a beautiful name

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/11/2019 14:13

Rafferty? Nn Raff?

Pippilangstrumpfi · 06/11/2019 14:25

Lowen John!

I'm not keen on Jago John. Is Jago pronounced Jag-o or Jay-go?

Scarlett555 · 06/11/2019 15:04

does make me think of a brooding man, but in a "Cornish period drama hero" sort of a way, rather than a "twat who won't dance at parties" sort of a way!

Haha that's exactly what I meant when I said Lowen was brooding. It's more mysterious and aloof while in my mind a Jago would be a happy, friendly chap who didn't take himself too seriously.

Interesting there's an even split.

Maybe we should wait until he's born and see which one suits him best.

Girlie I really like Rafferty (not as much as Raphael) but DW isn't keen on any Raff / Rafi names.

Oooh Lowan, not a name I have heard before, but I love it (not that I will get to use it anytime soon haha!)

@Scarlett555

Jago is really cool !!! Love it!

To my ears Lowen is almost identical sounding to Rowan and people will continually mishear it. Given that Rowan is one of the highest climbing names in the top 100 and rockets up the charts each year (together with Roman), It’ll be top 10 in no time. I’d pick a name that isn’t as likely to get confused and muddled with another. There could be a classroom with 2 Rowan and your , for example! Poor teacher 🤣

Glad your search is narrowing down!! ❤️

Leopardprintboots · 06/11/2019 16:52

*2 Rowans and your Lowen in a classroom sorry!

Just my thoughts anyway

Glad you’ve got some names you like

Leopardprintboots · 06/11/2019 16:55

Oh wow didn’t realise the middle name would be John!

Jago John is the coolest name ever without being try hard!

Your partner sounds like mine @Scarlett555 ! Got absolutely SICK of talking about names I think he would have agreed to anything at one point 🤣

FizzyGreenWater · 06/11/2019 17:14

Oh crikey very good point Leopard!!

I think I must have seen about three threads already on the issue of people mixing up the soon to be ubiquitous Rowan with Roman.

I know four Rowans, two born in the last year. It's definitely majorly on the up.

Leopardprintboots · 06/11/2019 17:19

@Scarlett555 yes i know quite a few too. It’s a top 100 ranking girls’ name in Scotland too (doesn’t feature in boys list) so is obviously only seen as a girls’ name in Scotland
