Surname and middle name are both one syllable so we want at least a two syllable name (middle name will be John).

Names I love that have been vetoed:

Raphael / Rafael nn Rafi (my absolute favorite but DW thinks it’s pretentious)

Jago (too ‘nicknamey’)

Rohan (Too ‘wet’)

Milo (Nestle milk)

Oscar (she had a fish called Oscar)

Tobias nn Toby (just doesn’t like it)

Names she likes that I don’t:

Rhodri
Ezra
Jonah
Sebastian

We can’t use a name beginning with El as it would be too matchy matchy with our DD which is a shame as we both like Elijah, Elliot and Ellis

Other names we both like but can’t use as they already belong to close friends or cousins are Arlo, Issac, Theo and Reuben

There is one name neither of us dislike (Jacob) but neither of us love it either. Please wise Mumsnetters there must be a name we haven't thought of yet??!

Jacob would probably be a firm favourite if it wasn't for Mr Rees-Mogg. He's really put me off it.

Joseph instead? I quite like Jacob but I hate Jake. Whereas I like Joe.

itsgettingweird · 05/11/2019 19:25

Joseph John is lovely.

My ds middle name is Joseph.

EspressoPatronum · 05/11/2019 19:31

Ennis instead of Ellis?
Idris
Landon

Don’t let Jacob Rees-mogg ruin a lovely namr for you @Scarlett555

It’s mainstream enough that you don’t make an automatic association. Infact he is often referred to by his surname

Names like Jeremy and Boris are probably tricky these days and too loaded but not Jacob

Even the name Cameron is now being resurrected

Roughday · 05/11/2019 19:52

Albie ??

Roughday · 05/11/2019 19:54

I just love hearing that name . Can be short for Albert

Ronnie
Rocco I like
Ruffus
Stanley
Louis / Louie

All lovely names

lizzlebizzle33 · 05/11/2019 20:03

I've seen it mentioned a few times but I really love Caleb, so I'll mention it again. Caleb John sounds good too.

Scarlett555 · 06/11/2019 11:07

Thanks nosquirrels Nico is a name I've mulled over a lot as I like it but I don't love it.

We both like Cornish names but Piran makes me think of Piritan, but thank you for suggesting Keepmewarm

DW loves Lowen! (Thanks suspended) She wanted us to settle on that but then I had a wobble. It means 'joyful' but has the word 'low' in it. Also DS is very likely to be tall. Would it be strange for a tall man to be called Lowen?

It has a lovely soft sound but could come across as a bit of a brooding kind of name. My favourite Cornish name (Jago) seems so much more cheerful somehow!

DW says fine, let's call him Jago. She doesn't love it but thinks it's alright and is sick of talking about names. I think Jago John is a superb name.

If anyone is still following this thread interested in your favourite - Jago or Lowen?

OP posts:
FizzyGreenWater · 06/11/2019 12:09

Jago by an absolute mile.

I agree with you, Lowen is lovely when you know it's a Cornish name but just said cold - it's a bit odd and actually not a lovely sound really. I like the idea of it but I don't actually think the name is that nice.

Jago John is very cool.

FizzyGreenWater · 06/11/2019 12:10

Also - I've known a couple of folk with the surname Lowen, which would put me off.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 06/11/2019 12:25

I see you've almost decided....just when I was coming to give you the gift of 'Linus' Grin. DD was either going to be Lillith or Linus . Obviously she's not named Linus However, this was nearly 20 years ago so probably too old fashioned now.

But Jago is a gorgeous name, cool sounding and fun to write.
