Stan or Percy

We both like both names but I prefer Percy. Dh also likes Arthur but I know a few adult ones and it’s puts me off.

Am open to suggestions for names you think I’d like, this is my 7th baby!

All have traditional/old fashioned names and oldest two are in top ten, two are less common and two are names that aren’t common at all but are still proper names.

Dh says my name style is 1920s peaky blinder style names Grin I can see what he means, old fashioned working class kind of names.

Stan has a bit of meaning to us, it feels right but I think I’m just trying to find a name that jumps out at me just in case there’s one I like more that I haven’t thought of yet!

I always do this, itchy feet!

@Tweetingmagpie my son is Kai that's actually really hurtful.

Herewego93 · 06/09/2019 20:29

They're awful sorry

KezzabellaB · 06/09/2019 20:31

Good grief no!!! Just...... No!

ClaraThePigeon · 06/09/2019 20:40

Why should other people post their children's names? They aren't the ones who asked for opinions.I never understand posters who ask for people's thoughts on names then complain when they give them.

weekfour · 06/09/2019 20:40

I love Percy. I was having a Percy but when baby came she was actually a Margot! Still feel sad. I was rather connected to the name and there's no way I'll get to use it now.

I did ask on here about it and got a pretty unanimous no with many posters obsessing over porcelain. Didn't change my mind though. It's obviously a marmite name. I think I like marmite names.

Parttimewasteoftime · 06/09/2019 20:41

My DS wanted a Thomas the tank name for DS2 😂 Percy the green train all I can think but on that theme Thomas Gordon James Henry?
But like Stan it's cute.

Marshamello · 06/09/2019 20:42

someone’s telling me my choices are awful but their kids are called Jayden and Kai

Meow!!! Grin

If you have that attitude about other names I don't feel bad about saying your choice of Percy is horrendous

ClaraThePigeon · 06/09/2019 20:42

I'd sooner be Kai then a Percy. It's about the wettest name imaginable, besides Rupert.

LittleMy20 · 06/09/2019 20:43

Both a bit too Thomas the Tank Engine.

OooErMissus · 06/09/2019 20:44

Percy will never be anyone other than this guy to me, so would probably encourage you to go with another choice.

my children aren’t the the type to be teased

Out of interest, who are the type of children to be teased?

Stan or Percy
Marshamello · 06/09/2019 20:46

ClaraThePigeon absolutely agree!

westcountrychicken · 06/09/2019 20:49

Our neighbours labradors were called Percy and Stanley!

Gummybearsy · 06/09/2019 20:51

I think it's about knowing a poster's style. This is helpful in determining whether their style and tastes are similar or different to yours.

joystir59 · 06/09/2019 20:55

My son is called Krishna. A classic Indian name. Percy is vile imo

OooErMissus · 06/09/2019 21:00

Yeah, sure, but...

Some people have no interest in garnering other people's opinions of their child's proposed, or actual, name/s. It's sensibly not up for discussion.

Other people do want to hear what others think. And if they ask on here, they will most definitely get unbridled opinions.

OooErMissus · 06/09/2019 21:01

Any anyway...

What on earth is the point in asking for opinions, but completely disregarding the negative ones? Confused

Just go with the name you like, in that case. Why ask?

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 06/09/2019 21:04

Have you not heard the expression 'Point Percy at the porcelain' OP?
Stan is very popular at the moment allegedly. I rather like it.

Marshamello · 06/09/2019 21:08

When the OP got snobby and judgy about Jayden and Kai.... Really she sgohksve remembered the saying People in glass houses Wink

sue51 · 06/09/2019 21:28

Stan is a great name. I thought Percy porcelain too but I'm in my sixties so it may well be a generation thing. Go with Percy if you like it.

Tweetingmagpie · 06/09/2019 21:44

I’m not being snobby but they’re just completely different types of names, I don’t care what people call their kids and I actually like most names but obviously when it comes to choosing your own kids names you want something that feels right.

@Marshamello what’s that supposed to mean? None of my children are called names like that Confused

I don’t mind that people don’t like the names, in fact about 6 years ago I posted on here asking for opinions on a name I wanted to call my daughter and except for handful of people everyone hated it! I still have her that name and I’m so glad I did, she really suits it and I still love it, and she gets lots of compliments about her name!

Just because I want people’s opinions doesn’t mean I will listen to them Grin

@Tweetingmagpie I think what you ment to say was sorry that was really insensitive in future I will ignore the nasty negative people and keep my mouth shut if I have nothing nice to say.

When people are mean to you about your choices pointing at other peoples choices to avoid it is low.

sweetiepie1979 · 06/09/2019 21:54

Stan is a creepy name in my opinion
Percy is weak pale and sickly

Lonelykettleshed · 06/09/2019 21:59

My granddad was a Percy and so I have a bit of a soft spot for it. That said, Stan makes me think of the tennis player Stan Wawrinka and I definitely have a soft spot for him too.

Tweetingmagpie · 06/09/2019 22:07

I’m not sorry because I haven’t done anything wrong, you just took it the wrong way, what I meant is that if someone likes one style of name then they’re unlikely to like the opposite style of that and therefore their opinion isn’t really going to matter to me.
