I've always seen Joan as a name that would never make a comeback but have seen it mentioned on here recently.

Oh, please, not Ethel. lt was my mam's name but l cannot imagine looking at a baby and saying "We'll call her Ethel!"

Mumshappy · 30/11/2018 23:23

Winnie is now being used quite a bit

Marcipex · 30/11/2018 23:24

Evie, Elsie, Alfie, Noah etc all seem extremely old fashioned to me and I'd never have thought they would make a comeback.
I haven't met a little Joan or Oswald yet. But I do know a Mabel, Mona and Albert. I guess Ethel is next.

Vera will be back, it has that Ivy/Eva/Elsie/Alma vibe to it.

Bob is just Robert, surely? That's at least a generation away from your others. Not common now but not unknown in the under-40s? Or is that.just where I live?

katseyes7 · 30/11/2018 23:32

l remember my friend saying about her dad, who was the loveliest man ever, "what on earth possesses somebody to call a tiny baby Bernard?" Mind you, l married a Nigel, so....

RedRoseReb · 30/11/2018 23:32

I like Pamela and Barbara!

Berniethefastestmilkwoman · 30/11/2018 23:33

I like Margaret.

Marcipex · 30/11/2018 23:33

Pamela and Barbara are sweet, and so is Valerie.

I think Norman has gone forever. But I'd have said that about Albert.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 30/11/2018 23:34

I have literally today heard of a baby born with the middle name Edna.

I know two small Daphnes and a small Leonard.

My friend had a little boy called "Wilf" in her village. But she said he suited it.
