I know of a WALTER poor little chap is only a baby, I was a bit shocked when I heard what his name was.

Buddywoo · 01/12/2018 06:50

What about Patricia?

Ohhgreat · 01/12/2018 06:51

I know of toddlers called Wilfred and Ernest, and Albert too.

RedWineIsFabulous · 01/12/2018 06:57

Dennis.

Definitely.

No I’m not thinking ‘ Denny’ in Eastenders!!

I grew up thinking names such as Harry and George were really old fashioned and look how popular they are now. Several names listed here have been on baby name threads and have been deemed by the mns jury as being okay.

However, the names that spring to mind are

Sharon
Tracy
Kevin

It's not the character Fizz in Corrie it's the actress Jennie McAlpine. Her children are Albert and Hilda.
When I named my Wilf 22 years ago there were only 14 that year. In 2016 there were 306.

Elsie-rose. My grandma was Elsie and my husband's grandma was rose and my 4yo DD IS Elsie-rose. We decided on this whilst I was pregnant and I liked the tribute of the name but felt a bit guilty about calling our DD this. Anyway we did and I couldn't imagine her being called anything else. Also she just started school and there is another Elsie-rose in her class

Mumshappy · 01/12/2018 09:45

One of mine has one of these names and just to say that in my DH’s culture it is still very popular and not even considered old fashioned. It just never went away!

LokiDokiArtichoki · 01/12/2018 10:58

I have a toddler Leonard! There were 87 registered last year!

Dp wants to call our next baby (due May) Clifford if it’s a boy. My Foot has well and truly been stomped down 😂

HopeGarden · 01/12/2018 11:09

Almost all these names will come back into fashion if you wait long enough.

There’s names in the top 20 - e.g. Florence, Arthur, Noah, Amelia - that I would have considered hopelessly old fashioned 15-20 years ago.

I think the only ones that will really struggle to come back into fashion are the ones that have picked up other connotations - such as Adolf - or ones where the word meanings behind the names have changed - like Dick or Gay.
I know a handful of elderly people named Dick and Gay, born before the words dick and gay took on their modern definitions. I can’t see either of those names coming back into fashion.

I never understand the “Linda” hatred- it always comes up on these threads. I get that it’s dated, but if you strip away those associations, I think it’s a pretty name

11OrangeApple · 01/12/2018 11:33

One which has come back which I just can't get on board with is Mabel. To me it's on a par with Patricia, Hilda, Brenda (all names of my nans / greatnans) that should be kept in the past.

Yet I probably can't comment, my dd is Philippa
