Inspired by my watching of White Christmas earlier I’m interested in names people don’t think will make a come back.

My list so far

I know a young Barbara, Jeans, Joan, Daphne, Vera, Trevor, Sheila, Frieda, Ethel, Hilda, Phyllis, Doris, Veronica, Agnes, Nora, Judith, etc. The Stella I know is about ten years old. I know a Clive in his 20s. Robert is on the return, I think - I know a couple of baby ones, plus another in his teens.. So I assume that might mean Bob will be back.

I know loads of small children with names above!

RuthW · 01/12/2018 20:14

And my dd's name was a wow, shocker, very old fashioned when I announced her name. Her name is Florence and she's nearly 22.

I don't think all names come back. Some are so 'of their time' or 'of their class' they never will . And some are just plain awful. A name needs to be euphonious.

Bishalisha · 01/12/2018 22:04

I have a Kimberley (3) Grin

I love Doris. Fun fact - it was King Herod’s wife’s name 😂

Esker · 01/12/2018 22:16

I think 70s names like Brenda, Sandra and Janet are unlikely to enjoy a revival.

GrannyHaddock · 01/12/2018 22:24

HRTFT, but has anyone mentioned Hubert?

I think it definitely depends where you live. I know lots of Norman, Kenneth, Malcolm, Joan, Margaret children. More than three of each of these under the age of 20 and dozens older. Very popular here. I think most names make a "comeback " given time. When I was a child I didn't know anyone called Albert or Evie or Olivia but you can't shift for them now.

Winterwonderland12 · 01/12/2018 22:50

Sandra, Stella, Valerie etc are actually very pretty names! They will definitely come back.

Winterwonderland12 · 01/12/2018 22:51

In fact I find the nicer than a lot of the current cutesy names like Poppy, Evie, Ellie etc.

BestZebbie · 01/12/2018 22:53

Aethelred? Fanny?
I'm actually waiting for the new wave of Angela, Joan, Susan etc

ShadyLady53 · 01/12/2018 22:53

I know under 10s called Edith, Florence, Audrey, Jim, Xavier, Douglas, Evelyn, Maurice, Edwin, Winnie, Violet, Margaret etc.

Margaret and Douglas are newborns.

One of my favourite girls’s names is Jessie which always makes me think of an old lady.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 01/12/2018 23:07

Nigel
Brian
Darren
Colin
Carol
Brenda
Hilary
Lindsey

I know a Maud, a Vera and a Gladys but they are all dogs

DH has a cousin called Walter, he's about 40. There is also a Rupert in the family. I can't imagine these names ever becoming popular.

babyincoming · 01/12/2018 23:27

My sons banes has been mentioned several times...but it's a very cool name I think!

To the pp who said Reginald...it's been it the top 100 for the past 2 years already and only gaining in popularity....

babyincoming · 01/12/2018 23:28

Name not banes!

Fluffiest · 01/12/2018 23:31

I'd love Gladys to come back. I just have a feeling young Gladys would take no nonsense.

Picknickers · 01/12/2018 23:32

Cecil Claude Gladys and Norma
