I love it and have met only a couple of little boys with the name. It feels proper but also a little different. But can it be a girls name too?

Wouldn't have thought so.

Aus84 · 12/11/2018 00:00

I wouldn’t do that to my child, but hey, each to their own.

ElizabethMainwaring · 12/11/2018 00:00

No.

moredoll · 12/11/2018 00:00

Nope. It's a boy's name.

Kintan · 12/11/2018 00:01

It would be very odd to call a girl Jasper and I don’t think that they would thank you for it! It is a lovely name though..for a boy!

housetips · 12/11/2018 00:01

No

Fridgedooropen · 12/11/2018 00:01

No. Please don't. They'll have years of explaining it. How about Vesper instead?

Choccywoccyhooha · 12/11/2018 00:03

I like it.

NewIdeasToday · 12/11/2018 00:04

No. It’s a boys name.

PinkAvocado · 12/11/2018 00:05

No. It’s ok for a boy. How about Jacinta?

stinkypoo · 12/11/2018 00:07

No, it's definitely a boys name.
Jasmine?

BackforGood · 12/11/2018 00:23

No. It is a boy's name.
I mean, legally you can call her what you want, but if you are asking if it is a good idea then the answer is No.

Lindtnotlint · 12/11/2018 00:24

No.

KristinaM · 12/11/2018 00:24

No

Picknickers · 12/11/2018 00:25

Don't be dàft!

ErrolTheDragon · 12/11/2018 00:52

I don't know why it's conventionally a boys name when just about all the other 'precious stone' names are girls, but it is. The only jasper I can think of is Carrot ... so no.

How about Vesper instead?
A prayer that sounds like a moped? Confused

TheVanguardSix · 12/11/2018 01:05

No. Not at all.

LiquoricePickle · 12/11/2018 01:06

Definitely not. It's a boys name.

WowCrabby · 12/11/2018 01:09

It would be a no from me too. It sounds odd. It's not a unisex name it's a boys name.

MrMeSeeks · 12/11/2018 01:09

No, absolutely a boys name

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 12/11/2018 01:20

It’s fine to want a unisex name or not something flowery or traditionally feminine, but it won’t be you that has to deal with living with what is in the UK a very definite masculine name.

It would be bloody annoying having to explain your name every time you met someone new, hear “but that’s a boys name!” for the millionth time or deal with people’s polite shock when they meet you after clearly expecting a man after seeing your CV.

MrsTerryPratcett · 12/11/2018 01:21

Would you call a boy Charlotte? If not, why not?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/11/2018 01:22

It's awful for a boy and heinous for girl, and I doubt she'll thank you for it. but That's my opinion it isnt fact.

Freyanna · 12/11/2018 01:49

No

falcon5 · 12/11/2018 02:23

It's what you call a wasp.
