Jasper for a girl?

I love it and have met only a couple of little boys with the name. It feels proper but also a little different. But can it be a girls name too?

I quite like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

DreamsofJacaranda · 14/11/2018 18:12

Jaspa? To make it more feminine.
Or Jupita, which is similar but totally different Hmm

Don’t worry OP, I’m sure your pregnancy hormones will settle down soon.

ElizabethMainwaring · 14/11/2018 18:43

Or, if we're going down that route, ie Jaspa, why not Jaffa?

Chocrock · 14/11/2018 18:45

I know a girl called Jasper. She's about 18 years old, a lovely girl, I love the name for a girl.

HelenaJustina · 14/11/2018 18:46

Not read all 6 pages but it’s a no from me too

raviolidreaming · 14/11/2018 19:00

Davina and Robina are fine though IMHO

Definitely preferable to Davidina and Robertina Wink

Cactus3 · 14/11/2018 19:13

We’re going to go for it. Thanks for everyone’s opinions though! 😁

Seriously Cactus....? You're joking aren't you? :).

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/11/2018 08:02

Good for you OP! GrinThanks

MrsGollach · 15/11/2018 08:03

It's a ghost's name. A boy ghost. You are being ridiculous.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 15/11/2018 08:40

mrs I think you’re thinking of Casper 😂

It’s grown on me OP, I like it.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 15/11/2018 08:43

No!

Newlifeisstarting · 15/11/2018 08:51

Please don’t, my parents gave me a name which has become almost exclusively male in recent years, before that it was very unusual as a girls name. It has made my life so difficult at times... I’ve at long last decided to change my name this year to a more feminine version.

VenusInSpurs · 15/11/2018 08:53

No.

But I see you are going for it anyway.

MrsGollach · 15/11/2018 08:55

Oh no, poor little girl.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 15/11/2018 11:03

I don’t think it’s awful. It’s different but I find on mums net if you aren’t called your kid Olivia or Noah nobody gives a shit. Or all those extra names like Wilf, Wilaminena, Clementine that Iv never met in person. You know the vibe. I’d ratner be Jasper

MrsFoxPlus4 · 15/11/2018 11:05

We were going to call one of our twins Spencer and she’s a girl. Mumsnet put me off and we settled for Stella and I don’t love her name. Iv found nobody ever says anything nasty to your face 😂

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/11/2018 11:52

Your business. However don't expect her to thank you for it.

May I ask why you even bothered to ask advice when you weren't going to take it on board anyway.

ThanosSavedMe · 15/11/2018 11:54

MrsFox it’s not about people saying nasty things to your face, it’s about your child having to live a life with a name that they will forever have to explain or deal with misunderstanding.

My name is a female name but very close to a male name, I often get email or phone calls asking for the male name and it pisses me off. But that’s just laziness on their part. If my name was actually male, it would be even worse.

Most people are fine with unusual names, it most certainly doesn’t have to all be Olivia’s and Noah’s but to purposely give a girl a male name is awful.

NinjaGoSaysNo · 15/11/2018 12:10

Yeah there's a lot of middle ground between a Top 3 name and giving your child a name that will lead to a lifetime of explanations.

I know a female Jamie, it causes issues/annoyance for her and that's not even a totally-unheard-of-for-a-girl/woman name in the way that Jasper is.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 15/11/2018 12:15

Poor little Jasper.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 15/11/2018 12:26

The name Jasper is not actually from the stone, but is from the Persian for "treasure bringer" and was the name of one of the three wise men (he's variously called Gaspar, Caspar or Jasper... they're all variants of the same name).
I guess then it would be a good name for z baby boy born around Christmas.

Linziepie · 15/11/2018 12:29

no
