I love it and have met only a couple of little boys with the name. It feels proper but also a little different. But can it be a girls name too?

Carrott. Lol

plaidlife · 12/11/2018 02:35

No, it really isn't unisex.

katsudon · 12/11/2018 03:14

Please no.

AgathaRaisinDetra · 12/11/2018 03:36

Fred is a nice name.

Donald?

MonsterKidz · 12/11/2018 03:39

I’m in Scotland. I know quite a few Jaspers. All boys or men.

Or cats.

Josiebloggs · 12/11/2018 04:34

Jesper?
Also boys but looks and sounds slightly more feminine to me.

SpendingYearsWondering · 12/11/2018 07:55

Awful for a boy (it just sounds so wet), would be even worse for a girl.

RedDwarves · 12/11/2018 08:04

I went to school with a female Jasper. She'd be in her 20s now. I don't think it ever cause an issue - certainly no more than female Alexs, female Charlies, female Sams etc.

I think it's fine. It's a nature name, ultimately, so isn't really comparable to something distinctly masculine like William.

DeltaFlyer · 12/11/2018 08:04

My nana had a female cat called jasper.
(It was wrongly sexed). It suited her but I wouldn't call a child that

SallyWD · 12/11/2018 08:20

No she won't thank you for it

byronicheroine · 12/11/2018 08:23

... Hester?

Tiredmum100 · 12/11/2018 08:27

I wouldn't, but then my male cat is called Jasper.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 12/11/2018 08:33

I quite like it for a girl! But then again I also like James for a girl so what do I know?

JanetLovesJason · 12/11/2018 08:34

No

sonlypuppyfat · 12/11/2018 08:35

My spaniel was called Jasper, it's not a girls name

Panticles · 12/11/2018 08:36

I met a baby girl called Bob yesterday. I liked it. She might have been Roberta.

ChicagoLil · 12/11/2018 08:38

Jazzber?

exexpat · 12/11/2018 08:38

It's odd how most jewel/semi-precious-stone names are for girls, but Jasper is only used for boys.

How about Topaz, Amber, Pearl, Ruby, Crystal, Jade or similar instead?

brizzledrizzle · 12/11/2018 08:40

No.

Peachbubble · 12/11/2018 09:19

No, go for Jasmine if you want a similar sound

CBA2RTFT · 12/11/2018 11:11

I don't think it ever cause an issue - certainly no more than female Alexs, female Charlies, female Sams etc

Alex, Charlie and Sam are long-established diminutives of longer girls' names - Alexandra, Charlotte and Samantha.
They are not boys' names.

Jasper is a boys' name (and it's hideous)

FrigideBarjot · 12/11/2018 12:03

I think it's quite a feminine sounding name so why not?

SuperstarDJ · 12/11/2018 12:15

It’s not a unisex name - it’s a definite boys name (and not a very nice one at that). Why would you want to do that to your daughter?

sue51 · 12/11/2018 12:19

No.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2018 12:21

Only if you would call a boy Felicity.
