What name would you never use? There has to be a good reason! Ie school enemies/murderers/funny connotations!

What name would you never use for your child?
It could be that there are connotations or reminders of others.

To kick it off Myra and Adolf are out for me!

There is an Adolfo in my local store (South American) but the last o is kind of tucked under, so it looks more like Adolf, very unfortunate. Weirdly I love the name Adolfo, but don’t think I could use it.

Unicyclethief · 23/10/2018 00:03

I also know a Myra, she is so lovely that it kind of makes that name totally acceptable to me. (Also South American, it is a very common name)

Poor man!
I have never encountered a nice Paul!
In my view “all Paul’s are evil”
Pol pot was a good example

My mum went to school with a girl in the 60s called Lesbia
She changed it by deed poll

School enemies! Susan, Olivia and Amanda went straight on my "never" list. Mind you we had already ruled out any initial A names due to a surname combination problem.

SusieQ5604 · 23/10/2018 00:23

Bertha

BlackWitchInChildWringing · 23/10/2018 00:23

Damien!

DC2018 · 23/10/2018 00:27

Ashleigh, Sarah, Nicole and Rebecca were school bullies. Dale, John and Jared were idiots in my class. Amanda is my ex's mistress so those are all on the 'never in a million years list lol

bumblebee39 · 23/10/2018 00:30

Lucy

I have met many lovely ones but also one who was spiteful in secondary school.

Katrina, Hannah, Katie and Bethany, all bitchy girls from primary school etc.

Always loved the names Natasha, Roisin and Larissa but they will always be people I knew once not kids of mine...

BlackWitchInChildWringing · 23/10/2018 00:35

Jeremy because of Clarkson.
Boris because of Johnson.
Margaret because of Thatcher.
Beverley and Lorraine because of school 'characters'.

I now know a nice Margaret and a very nice Beverley, but I still wouldn't use the names.

Adolph and Myra, as others have said.

Julia
Sarah
Mandy
Lesley
Thomas
Benjamin
Alex

Yawn yawn yawn
Boring names
Apologies anyone with these names!!
(But the world would be very dull if we all held the same opinions)

And modern names: Lila/Lyla... sounds like ‘liar’
I knew a Lila and she always lied. Totally put me off an otherwise ok-ish name.

Ridiculous names (IMO) that won’t wirk when applying for jobs etc as an adult:

Princess as a name is stupid.

Names with the word God in them- I used to work with a ’Godspower’ ....you don’t want to know what he said his siblings were called.

Beau- it’s stupid.

Blue- even more stupid.

Cinderella- not cute!!!!!

Melon- not joking- child in daughters class was actually called this.... Why?!!!!!!!!!

Feeling particularly moany tonight! Guess who’s on a diet!!!

AlliKaneErikson · 23/10/2018 00:56

Amanda/Mandy (so funny it always crops up on threads like this!) and Shane; two not very nice individuals I was in school with.

CheeseTheDay · 23/10/2018 08:47

Amelia - when I was a teen, I loved the name, but then my mum (a doctor) told it's the medical term for a baby born without one or more of his/her limbs. I have never looked at the name the same way since.

Golda - one of my favourite Jewish (Yiddish) names, but our surname starts with another colour, and neither DH or I wanted any of our daughters to have a name that sounded like a shade of paint!

safariboot · 23/10/2018 08:52

Sid. I don't know why but I just think it's the name of a stupid person.

Kintan · 23/10/2018 08:56

Joanne, Lisa, Sandra - names of primary school mean girls!

PJBanana · 23/10/2018 09:13

Laura.

Every other person around here seems to be called Laura and I have never met a remotely nice one!

MrsMarigold · 23/10/2018 09:23

This girl I knew at school was called Regula, poor thing led to loads of tampon related jokes. Actually quite a pretty name.

LookingThroughTheLookingGlass · 23/10/2018 10:43

Can I add siblings names that all follow a theme eg all start with the same letter but sibling no.5 or whatever has a totally random name that doesn’t fit the theme...
Eg Dave, Dean, Debbie, Diane and Marcie-Lou
If you’re committed to a theme, stick to it!

OutPinked · 23/10/2018 12:47

Never met a clever Katie, never met a nice Hannah, Anna, Georgia is Georgina. All those names have poor connotations for me. Boys wise Daniel is a no go, every single Daniel (usually Dan or Danny) I’ve met has been a cunt of the highest order.

MissSusanSays · 23/10/2018 12:49

Martha- I once taught a girl called Martha who was so so so cruel and vindictive. She used to delight in putting down other students. Like Mean Girls but actually worse in real life.

randomsabreuse · 23/10/2018 12:52

John and variations thereof. DH's bosses have generally been called John and both have been difficult!

Cattenberg · 23/10/2018 12:58

A Sylvia and an Ariana were vile to a member of my family. Shame, as I love both names.

I've only known one Estelle. She was in my year at school and she wasn't particularly nice to me. But maybe if i met a nice Estelle, I could get past that. It is a lovely name.

Gettingonwithlife · 23/10/2018 13:05

Agree with Daniel and for a girl Lauren

crackerslikejacobs · 23/10/2018 13:07

Hazel! Was my friend who slept with my ex whilst we were together.
