What name would you never use? There has to be a good reason! Ie school enemies/murderers/funny connotations!

What name would you never use for your child?
It could be that there are connotations or reminders of others.

Shock I’m a slapper and a bully apparently

For me it’s Lydia, it makes me immediately think of Labia

BasilFaulty · 09/12/2018 16:08

Naomi, Piers, Georgie, Freddie, Dan or Daniel, Jenna, Steve - all horrid people and therefore names imo.

Myra, Maxine, Adolf, Donald, Aileen - because obvs

HappyEverIftar · 11/12/2018 18:53

Darren - dicks, all of them
Shelley - highly strung and unpleasant
Sophie - as above
Simon - I've had an inordinately high number of these in my life. It baffles me as there are so many lovely names out there and this one has connotations (Simple Simon, Simon Says) etc that are unfortunate. Why would you do this to your child? Confused

MsTSwift · 11/12/2018 22:13

Never met a nice Jacquie (Jacqueline). My first boss as a teen was called this she wore heavy make up velour tracksuits with stilettos and loved the boys that worked for her but detested girls I was terrified of her.
Laura’s also frequently mean.

SusieQ5604 · 12/12/2018 05:25

Bertha. My GGM's anime. It's just do ugly!!!

PatricksRum · 12/12/2018 05:43

Neveah

Dave

GinUnicorn · 23/12/2018 08:23

Stephanie - absolutely vile individual- name is utterly ruined for me.

MumUnderTheMoon · 23/12/2018 08:52

Freya. It's a very pretty name but also a brand of bras. Every time I meet a Freya I think back to being a kid with big boobs who could only get a bottle green coloured bra from Freya to fit.

trueblueari · 28/12/2018 18:33

Nadia - absolutely vile girl at my high school.

Viola - it's pronounced differently, but it's a conjugation of the verb "violar" or to rape in Spanish and whenever I see the name written, that's all I can think of.

I know a Myra - spelled Mayra as she's Hispanic - and thought it was a lovely name until I mentioned her to a friend and she reacted with "her name is MAYRA? Poor thing" and I suddenly realised the connotations...

LaBelleSausage · 28/12/2018 18:42

Oh dear. Me, DH and DS are all on here Grin

I agree though, my name is horribly dull.

I couldn’t use Trudy, Clarissa, Kim or Megan thanks to mean girls from school.

And calling a baby Clive, Kevin, Derek, Janet or Susan just seems cruel as they’re not old enough to be retro, just horribly dated.
Although I met a baby Barbera the other day and actually I kind of love that name now when I would have lumped it in with the above ones.

I’m a teacher, so many names remind me of kids I’ve taught, and hence I have some (utterly wrong in many cases, I’m sure) preconceptions.

Callum - never met a well behaved one.
Bobby - can’t sit still
Jack - cute, bit cheeky.
Ade - fun
Tiana - mean girl.
Elizabeth - sensible.
Miriam - quiet, sweet.

BirthdayCakes · 28/12/2018 20:44

I think Clive is retro enough, it's quite cute - and I like Susannah but not Susan..

But I had a neighbour from hell who's children were called Jayden, Michaela, and Niveah.. Horrible names, all..

I also irrationally dislike Mel - I can almost handle Melissa or Melaine but not Mel.. Also hate Becs or Becca but really like Rebecca.. I went through a phase of feeling so desperately sorry for Mel and Becs

snoutandab0ut · 28/12/2018 20:45

Kate/Katie - ex’s OW, and the name of the most stuck up bitch friend-of-a-friend. The name itself is inoffensive but the connotations.

Sarah’s and Helens in my experience are quite unpleasant. Janette is always the office busybody

SoftBlocks · 28/12/2018 20:50

Kitty.

We used to feed our cat Kit-E-Kat when I was a kid. I can smell cat food when someone says it.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/12/2018 20:52

Laura - the girl my ex left me for. Yuk.

Patricia, Katie and Natalie were the school bullies.

Felix was the nickname we gave to a very dear friend, no bad connotations as such but the name will always be his alone.

missmouse101 · 28/12/2018 20:57

Amelia. Mealy mealy mealy horrible sound! Rachel is out too (she nicked my boyfriend!)

thefinn · 28/12/2018 21:00

Heidi or David but tbf there must be all kinds of Davids

mummydummyabc · 28/12/2018 21:04

Claire, Tammy, Irene, Amy, Lee, Phillip and Ricky (bully's). Timothy (mummy's boy, cheating ex boyfriend).

BikeRunSki · 28/12/2018 21:08

Samantha, Ruth- School bullies
Charlotte - totally irrational dislike!
