What name would you never use? There has to be a good reason! Ie school enemies/murderers/funny connotations!

What name would you never use for your child?
It could be that there are connotations or reminders of others.

Alastair - I love the name but I used to know someone called Alastair and he committed suicide Sad

iklboogiemanunderthebed · 23/10/2018 13:13

Janice - never met a nice one (I'm sure there must be some out there)

Quizeerascal · 23/10/2018 13:17

Potato because its a vegetable

clary · 23/10/2018 13:20

Maggie (Thatcher) apols to all the lovely Maggies (I even know some)

Rose if surname was West (I know one)

Adolph, Attila, and any other unusual names belonging to mass killers. Joseph (Stalin) is fine tho, as it's so popular anyway.

Clive - that's to do with two former bosses who were not very nice.

Loyaultemelie · 23/10/2018 13:25

Margaret (Beaufort plus an elderly aunt)
Ricki and Kelly (school bullies)
Micheal dropped me on my head in P3 (concussion)
Stanley (never trust a Stanley!)

areyoubeingserviced · 23/10/2018 13:26

Hispanics use the names Jesus.
I just find that strange

newrubylane · 23/10/2018 13:26

Donald is definitely ruined now. And to think, once upon a time all we thought of was an innocent cartoon duck...

bumblebee39 · 23/10/2018 13:48

Rose (west)
Myra (hindley)

bumblebee39 · 23/10/2018 13:49

I'll second Janice

But because of friends

bumblebee39 · 23/10/2018 13:51

Also penny

Partly because some people use it to describe their lady parts and it's the coins everyone ends up left with Too many of and feeding into the change machine and I hate the smell of coppers.

Also TBBT character has taken it forever

Equally a noonie, Fanny, willy etc.

UnRavellingFast · 23/10/2018 13:58

I know both a Fanny and a Willy Grin both very pleasant older ppl. Alana was my bully in primary school so I wouldn’t touch the name but as others have said, shame as these names are often pretty!

Stringofpearls · 23/10/2018 14:02

Hannah made my life at secondary school almost unbearable and Natasha once hit me with a hockey stick. I also would never use the name Grant as I had a truly awful, lecherous, arrogant boss with that name many years ago.

thegreylady · 23/10/2018 14:55

Dale, as a teacher I had a real horror, some unpleasant Lee’s too.
Girls I can’t think of any real bugbears beyond Myra even though I had a dear friend with that name it will be forever Hindley to me.

PickleForPresident · 23/10/2018 15:01

Biblical names. I am not religious and wouldn't give my child a name from the bible.

3in4years · 23/10/2018 18:22

Rhian sounds like 'nothing' in French (rien).
Amelia sounds like mealy worms.

RedDwarves · 23/10/2018 21:47

I went to school with an Adolfo. Even now, I think it's a very strange name choice in light of Hitler.

Couldn't have an Ivan in Australia.

I think naming your child after any political figure is a bad idea. Something ubiquitous like Margaret is fine, but Reagan or Whitlam or Thatcher is a heavy burden, regardless of your political leanings.

nicslackey · 23/10/2018 21:53

Joanne. I've known 3 and all of them were slappers

Hellywelly10 · 23/10/2018 22:01

Brandon, met a couple of very dodgy ones.

Petalflowers · 23/10/2018 22:07

Sylvia - caused a friend to fall of a climbing frame and break her arm in infant school

SardineJam · 23/10/2018 22:12

Sarah - all the Sarah's I've known have been busybodies

missmouse101 · 23/10/2018 22:13

Rachel-nicked my boyfriend!

LemonRedwood · 23/10/2018 22:14

Craig

He picked his nose and wiped it on my leg in primary school.

Paradyning · 23/10/2018 22:15

Theodore. An absolute bastard.

Picknickers · 24/10/2018 00:47

Lucy. Never met a nice one.
Sidney/Sydney sounds HORRIBLE to me.
Caroline and Clara. Really neurotic weird women I've worked with.
I cringe every time I see one of those names on mn!

Thetimehascometo · 24/10/2018 07:59

@CheeseTheDay I never knew that! DH and I have liked the name Amelie since before kids were even on the cards. We fell pregnant but DH's sister had her little girl a few months before us and called her Amelia, so we figured, much to my disappointment, that Amelie was out. Secretly (i know it's horrible) but your post has made it a little better. Plus the fact we found another name that we love 😊
