Which names are repeated in your child’s class

We are in London and my girls have so many repeated names in their classes. But the repeats don’t match the top 5 names for their birth year which is interesting.

Where do you live and what names double up in your child’s class?

DD is in a year 7 cohort with:
5 x Isabella
3 x Matilda/Tilly/Tilda
3 x Sophia
2x Eloise
2x Florence

DD2 is in a year 4 class of 30 with
4x Daisy
2x Zoe
2x Milly

Ds1 is in year8 and I don't know many of the names but know
2x Oscar
2x Finn

Ds2 is in year 4
4x William
2x Joshua
2x Sophie
2x Alfie

Dd aged 8 has a class with lots of matching names, but they certainly don’t match the trends.

Emily x2 (ok, that one does), but also
Natasha x2
Georgina x2 (one is known as Georgie; there’s also a Georgia in the class)
Katherine x2 (one Katie, one Cathy)
Darcey/Darcie x2 (though spelt differently)

(She goes to a girl’s school)

And there’s not a single Olivia, Amelia, Sophie, Isabelle, Chloe or Ava. In fact, the only top 10 name from the year she was born in her class is Emily.

The only repeated name in DS(6)’s year is Louis.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 12/10/2018 13:33

DS is 14 and in S3. (But he would be year 11 if we were anywhere else in UK). His school is very multi-cultural with over 40% with ESL so probably not a good comparison to make. From his primary year group however (48 in the year group) the most repeated names were:

  • Euan/Ewan - 4
  • Dylan/Dillon - 3
  • Alex - 3
  • Poppy - 3
  • Abigail/Abi/Abby - 3

DD1 is 11 (P7/Yr6) and the most repeated names in her year group of about 50 are:

  • Kaitlin - 3
  • Cara - 2
  • Poppy - 2
  • Jack - 3
  • Aiden - 3

DTs are 8 and in p4 (yr3). Year group of about 60ish. Repeated names are:

  • Jessica - 3
  • Katie - 4
  • Thomas/Tomas - 3
  • Fin/Finn/Finlay - 3
TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 12/10/2018 13:34

Oh and Sophia - there are 3 of those in DT’s year group too

keepingbees · 12/10/2018 13:36

2 x Katie's and 2 x Freddie's in my dd's class

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 12/10/2018 13:37

Charlotte. So many bloody Charlottes, they can’t even be Charlotte S as there are some with surnames starting with the same letter..

MeredithShepherd · 12/10/2018 13:38

3 x Holly/Hollies in DS’s reception class.

Sunflower321 · 12/10/2018 13:39

Oliver, Harry, Alex, Tom

Ellie, Evie, Sophie, Olivia

Are all very common and we know several of each.

coffeekittens · 12/10/2018 13:40

2 x Archie 2 x Martha in my year 1 DDs class.

Onatreebyariver · 12/10/2018 13:42

6 year old is in an all boys school with

Freddy x 2 (both are Frederick)
Jamie x 2
Rupert x 2
Samuel x 2

Sunflower321 · 12/10/2018 13:43

This thread disproves the opinion that there are so many names nowadays that duplicates will be very rare! They clearly aren't!

SnuggyBuggy · 12/10/2018 13:43

Not exactly what was asked but when I was a kid in the 90s there were at least 5 James and Chris' in my primary yeargroup. I guess mums on sons weren't very adventurous in those days.

bettybyebye · 12/10/2018 13:44

Yr1 class - 2 x Sophia (and 1 Sophie!)
2 x Evan
2 x Martha
2 x Lucy
Dds nursery class:

Holly x2

Reception:
Archie x2
Oliver x2
Elisia x2 (both spelt differently but sound the same) Shock Bet the parents didn’t expect that!

todayiwin · 12/10/2018 13:55

@MrsCar 3 kids in 3 different schools! You're my hero, how do you organise all that?!

TokyoSushi · 12/10/2018 13:56

DD goes to a dance class, there are 5 Sophie's! She is one

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/10/2018 14:00

DS is 12. Half his football team seems to be called Joe. And all the girls in his primary seemed to be either Freya or Kiera.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/10/2018 14:01

Mind you, in my observation, boys tend to call each other by surname anyway.

Nettled · 12/10/2018 14:02

Year 2 -- there are two of Imogen, Harrison, Alice and Sophie.
