Baby names

ANOTHER baby names thread - DH says he will abide by majority view

DH and I both have our fav names chosen. We like each other's choices but like our own more. We cannot decide whose choice to go with. If there is a clear majority for one of the names below DH says we should go with the majority.

So which do you prefer:

For a girl:
Anna
Matilda

For a boy:
Reuben
Samuel

Right - I am finally back at a computer with DH who is itching to know who has won. I will start the count now and come back in a minute.

Right. That took a while because a few answers were ambiguous and lead to long debates between DH and I over who got to count them as being on their side .

But the results are one all.

Anna (my choice) 49
Matilda (DH's choice) 42
Reuben (my choice) 38
Samuel (DH's choice) 56

So now we have a plan... thanks everyone.

Glad you aren't using Matilda as that is a name I would like if we ever had a dd and it is already becoming too popular!

Samuel wouldn't suit our surname but of the two boys names it is the nicer one so good choice.

Are you going to have second names?

My nephew is called Samuel and my niece Matilda, both lovely names, and both gorgeous lil munchkins!

Don't go for Samuel. Within hours it will become 'Sam' which will just be really annoying.
Love Reuben, and Love Anna, but maybe make it annabel, so it could be both?
Don't like matilda at all, far too common these days, and she will end up being called 'mat' or 'hilda' (not good)

But if you are anything like me you will agonise over it, then come up with something totally different once you see the babies face!

Nooooooooooo go for something that is different.

If I was pushed over the edge it would be

Rubes and Anna

No one ever called their child Matilda and didn't expect people to call them tilly.

Anna and Reuben get my vote because there are lots of Sams and Matildas in my area - loads! Anna is a lovely name that has somehow slipped through the naming radar - good choice!

The only Reuben I know is jewish - I think it is a traditional jewish name so maybe this is why you chose it?

I love the name Matilda but I wouldn't shorten it as I don't like any of the shortened versions. I like Reuben better than Sam though I'm not to keen on it.

Matilda(Tilly) and Reuben get my vote.
Lots of Samuels around ATM if that bothers you.
Lovely names!
