I know these names won't be everyone's cup of teas but I have a 3 year old daughter named Heidi Rose and I really love how Dolly sounds with Heidi , 'Heidi and Dolly' but ever since I was a teenager I have had a huge love for the name Blossom.. what do you think? Smile

Agree with others. Dorothy is nice if you really want to use Dolly day-to-day. Dolly as a given name is dreadful. Blossom is inane even for a ewe lamb. Heidi, however, is perfectly lovely... they are not the same kinda names.

NameChangedForThisQ · 21/05/2018 17:44

Blossom is absolutely lovely. With Dolly really it should be a nickname, Gwedolyn?

Pooshy · 21/05/2018 17:45

Don't do it!

ellalouise90 · 21/05/2018 17:53

Thanks everyone for your opinions even though some of them could have been better I can understand why certain people will dislike these names. I quite like Thea and Indie and Darla too what do you think about those? Hmm

@Fluffiest it's my second child... this comment has honestly made me upset , I obviously love my second child as much as my first, I understand these names are not the 'average' names you hear however there's nothing wrong with being different being a Ella I hated it! throughout all my school life being labelled as 'Ella O' as there where so many Ella's was so annoying! I want my little girl to feel like she's her own little person x

Both are awful OP. Don’t saddle your child with either of these names.

CruCru · 21/05/2018 18:00

I think some of the responses on here are rather unkind. I grew up with several Daisys, an Amber and a Pearl and now know a few girls called Scarlett / Bluebell / Sorrel. I don't think Blossom is so far out there compared with these (although I do have more conservative tastes).

Dolly is an absolutely brilliant name for a really cool teenager who wears a lot of vintage fake fur and has platinum dyed hair. I am a bit put off it though because it was the nickname that Humbert Humbert used for Lolita.

If your daughter goes on to become a 40 something who runs a Government department, it might be easier to call her Dolores and then shorten it to Dolly.

It might be worth considering whether you would be devastated if your child chose to change their name or call themselves by a middle name. I know several people who have changed their names - they didn't feel that the name their parents gave them represented the people they were as adults. I think there is more of a risk of doing this if you choose a name that is very cute or cool.

@littlemissalwaystired I really like Dorothea as I love love love the name Thea , however does it not remind you of the word diarrhoea a little bit🤣 xx

I love both names and both were on my list for my DD. I think nowadays children do have more unusual names. Love Heidi too 👍 was also on my list! W
What about Connie or Honey? (maybe not with Heidi though!)

ellalouise90 · 21/05/2018 18:08

@WhatAMess123 we must have the same taste in names😂 absolutely love the name honey however I can't warm my boyfriend up to it at all Heidi was going to be a honey until I told him I wanted it and his face dropped🤣 thank you so much! Xx

Going against the grain, I love both! All the people saying you have to name a 40 year old woman forget that by the time today’s babies are 40, there will be a whole host of middle aged women with weird and wonderful names.

ellalouise90 · 21/05/2018 18:13

@MissDollyMix thank you so much! And there will be , all the 'unusual' names will be the normal names for example like now the normal adult names are things like Chloe , Danielle , Cheryl , Michelle... they will all be 'Dolly' 'blossom' 'thea' xxx

Dolly Parton is 72. Grin

My friend's little girl is called Dolly and it really suits her. Neither name for me but it's not my LO.

OrangesAndLemons10 · 21/05/2018 18:26

Such beautiful name so, although if I had to pick I'd go for Dolly (I know a Dolly and she's so lovely, it sways my opinion!)

ellalouise90 · 21/05/2018 18:31

@OrangesAndLemons10 thank you so much I love the names x

EdWinchester · 21/05/2018 18:34
