I know these names won't be everyone's cup of teas but I have a 3 year old daughter named Heidi Rose and I really love how Dolly sounds with Heidi , 'Heidi and Dolly' but ever since I was a teenager I have had a huge love for the name Blossom.. what do you think? Smile

Um neither 😐 Only Indies I know are boys? Thea is the best.

kezzy13 · 21/05/2018 18:57

ginorchoc

I had a cat called Indie once

autumnkate · 21/05/2018 19:52

Thea is having a spike in popularity at the moment

Canone · 21/05/2018 20:00

Sorry, I’m not keen either! Both sound very saccharine sweet, and I don’t think either will wear very well as an adult. Heidi is lovely though.

How about:

Polly
Posy
Effie
Elsie
Freya
Luna
Zelie
Bella
Primrose
Lilac
Nellie
Pippa
Tess

Are you naming a child or a farm animal? At least have Dorothy on the birth certificate and use Dolly as a nick name. Blossom is awful.

ellalouise90 · 21/05/2018 20:04

@buttercup54321 you say this but your name on this is buttercup ?

You're having a baby not sponsoring a cow! This child will one day be an adult and have to put that on a CV. Would you be able to take Ms Blossom Lastname seriously? Or Dr Blossom Lastname? Come on, OP.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/05/2018 20:13

I think “dolly bird” would put me off using Dolly.

Blossom makes me think of Blossom Dearie, the jazz pianist and singer, which is quite a nice association.

cookiesfortheunicorn · 21/05/2018 20:15

The names might sound cute when little but as an adult they sound silly!

LastNightsMakeUp · 21/05/2018 20:27

I don't like either, sorry OP! Personally I can't imagine a doctor/lawyer/PM with either of those names. I like be your DD's name though, Heidi is lovely. I wouldn't worry too much about matching their names as other than family occasions they'll be their own people and likely not be by each other's sides forever.

I really like Dorethea and Thea. I think blossom could work well as a MN with a more formal first name.

I've known one 'Dolly' who was a little old lady, Dorothy on her birth certificate.

exhaustedbylife · 21/05/2018 20:28

I know a adult Blossom and her sister is named precious... they love their names!

Op name your child what you love.

Manupprincess · 21/05/2018 20:43

Blossom couldn't marry anyone with the surname Hill 😁

Thea is lovely, as is Dorethea.

TheVanguardSix · 21/05/2018 20:44

Dolly

TheVanguardSix · 21/05/2018 20:47

Yes, I too know a Precious and a Comfort. If you put the names on paper (or MN), you'd be like Confused.
But reality is so very different... so very 'real' so it is. And the names beautiful... and so are they. Comfort is her name in every way, as is Precious.
I like Dolly, OP.
I like Bonnie. That was a name I wanted to use.

TheVanguardSix · 21/05/2018 20:48

And the names beautiful should actually read, "And the names Comfort and Precious are beautiful."
Don't know what happened to my typing on this post. Sorry.

Cyberworrier · 21/05/2018 20:51

Thea is a beautiful name, as is it Dorothea. Never heard Darla before but quite like the sound of it.

grasspigeons · 21/05/2018 20:56

I quite like Blossom - its not my favourite name but it wouldn't provoke a reaction like some of the ones above. I'd just think 'blossom - not met one of those before' and that would be that.

I'm less keen on Dolly as it sounds like someone's play thing to me. A really cute nickname though - would it work for Lola?

bonnie is lovely

BlueTrousers · 21/05/2018 20:59

Love Heidi, really wanted it for Dd1 but we live in manchester and the way people pronounced it put me off

Don’t like Dolly or Blossom, some suggestions that you may like and that go nicely with Heidi:
Polly (like Dolly but more of a real name than a nickname)
Penny
Mia
Nellie
Violet
Summer
April

springsummer12 · 21/05/2018 21:00

Sorry OP but I really don’t think your DD will thank you when she’s an adult for naming her Dolly or Blossom. Stick with Thea or Darla or Dorothea much much better!

weegiemum · 21/05/2018 21:23

I know quite a few adult Dollys from when I lived in the far NW of Scotland, its usually a shortening of Donaldina or Donalda. I know of a couple of little ones with Dolly as a middle name but not even there, in the Outer Hebrides, would I expect to hear it as a first name.

When I'd just had ds, the visiting midwife introduced herself to dd1 (then just 2). Dd1 looked at her in bewilderment and said (she was a very precocious talker) "Not a dolly! You a LADY".

SecretRed · 21/05/2018 21:44

I love Dolly, it's a fab name. Not keen on Blossom though.
I know of a woman named Twinkle who is about 25. I take her as seriously as I would someone named Catherine or Mary. By the time your baby is a teenager unusual names won't be as unusual as they seem now.

Joeybee · 21/05/2018 21:53

They are way too cutesy names. How is anyone going to take a Blossom or a Dolly seriously?
Definitely prefer Dolly out of these too, as it is a slightly stronger sounding name, maybe a Dolly could own her name and be feisty. Blossom perhaps should stay a guilty pleasure name. It's just too sickly sweet.

InkSnail · 21/05/2018 22:42

I like Blossom. Nature names win over toy cupboard names.

Buntysoven · 21/05/2018 23:08

I have a Darla! Obviously that's my favourite but I like Dolly too. The one I knew would be in her 70s now. A great lady who was not to be messed with!

Marcipex · 22/05/2018 11:49

Use Dorothea, Dora, Delilah, nn Dolly.
