Blossom or Dolly

I know these names won't be everyone's cup of teas but I have a 3 year old daughter named Heidi Rose and I really love how Dolly sounds with Heidi , 'Heidi and Dolly' but ever since I was a teenager I have had a huge love for the name Blossom.. what do you think? Smile

I think Dolly is sweet. 80 years ago, it was a very mainstream name so nothing wrong with an adult being called Dolly.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 21/05/2018 17:01

dolly is fab

how about nancy?

Sophronia · 21/05/2018 17:02

Most of those named Dolly 80 years ago will have had Dorothy on their birth certificates though.

Twelve8Ts · 21/05/2018 17:03

Blossom is lovely, someone I know of recently called her daughter this.

ellsbells2 · 21/05/2018 17:05

Heidi is a lovely name but Blossom is a horses name and the most famous Dolly (other than Parton) is a sheep.

kezzy13 · 21/05/2018 17:07

There's a little girl at my son's nursery called Dollie-Mai I don't usually like unusual names but think it's quite sweet

redmini4 · 21/05/2018 17:08

Much prefer Blossom to Dolly. I think it would sound nice with Heidi.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 21/05/2018 17:10

Dolly and Dollie are childish though. Having a "sweet" name does a girl / woman no favours when she wants to be taken seriously. At least give her an adult middle name to fall back on?

Zeelove · 21/05/2018 17:10

Dolly is one of my names. Dolly or Trixie. I got slated on here for them as they are 'stripper' names. I actually got my inspiration from two old family/friend members 😂

Go for dolly. It's lovely

Scabbersley · 21/05/2018 17:13

Are you actually a Shire horse?

ColdFeetAndHotCakes · 21/05/2018 17:14

Could you use Dolly as a shortening of anything (pp suggested Dorothy) and use Blossom as a middle name? Ignore the posters saying they sound like dolls names or stripper names or anything (which they aren't), all that matters is that you're happy with your choice.

TuTru · 21/05/2018 17:15

I love both xx

Ohcomeonn · 21/05/2018 17:16

Dolly is fine if its a diminutive of Dorothy or Dolores, I wouldn't use it as a standalone name.

Not mad on Blossom but it's cute for a pet

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2018 17:18

Dolly is marginally better than Blossom, which is only suitable for farm animals.

I guess we just don't have the same taste in names.

BertrandRussell · 21/05/2018 17:18

Remember you are naming a 40 year old woman.

Want2beme · 21/05/2018 17:19

Blossom, just like Blossom Dearie.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 21/05/2018 17:21

Dolores - yes
Dolly on its own - Good Lord no.
Blossom - sounds a bit too much like bosom.

littlemissalwaystired · 21/05/2018 17:21

I know a Dolly who's actually Dorothea - I think it's acceptable if she has a longer name but Dolly as a stand-alone is just too cutesy. Also not a fan of Blossom, I just can't imagine an adult with that name.

pupchewsleg · 21/05/2018 17:25

They sound like my little pony names. You have given your older child a lovely, proper name. You need to do the same for this child. She isn't an accessory to go with Heidi.
Dolly is OK as a nickname.

theunsure · 21/05/2018 17:28

I work in HE - one of the things that gets me through the hours and hours of graduation ceremonies is paying close attention to the hundreds of names that are read out and whether they suit the 21 year old wobbling across the stage for their handshake.

Dolly as a nn is fine, with something like Dorothy to be the name on the degree certificate. Blossom will find it hard to be taken seriously.

Most of the names that are read out are lovely - but every ceremony there are one or two that cause a raised eyebrow. Blossom would be one of those!

bridgetreilly · 21/05/2018 17:31

Dolly is a very cute nickname for a child. Call her Dorothy or Dorothea or even Dolores, so she's got something to grow up into.

Blossom is also a pet name, rather than a real name.

jeanzbeanz · 21/05/2018 17:33

Blossom is nice, not so keen on Dolly. Agree it could be a nice nickname. Dolores is lovely :)

Dvg · 21/05/2018 17:35

Both are horrible. For a baby not so bad but for adults.. I just don't see it working

guiltynetter · 21/05/2018 17:36

i love them both :) i’ve never been brave enough to use dolly but i agree with giving her a slightly more sensible middle name, just in case she doesn’t like it as she’s older!
