Ever Lin

FireplaceLover · 23/04/2018 22:34

Neither. I’d pronounce it, Ev-lin.
Eve lin sounds American to my ear.

ZeroFoxGiven · 23/04/2018 22:34

Ever Lin

RoundaboutSnail · 23/04/2018 22:35

Ev-lin.

Dozer · 23/04/2018 22:35

I always get it mixed up!

Winchester13 · 23/04/2018 22:35

Ever lin
It’s a really nice name

FireplaceLover · 23/04/2018 22:35

Or possibly, Eve lin. Confused But def no ‘r’ in there. Smile

MyKingdomForBrie · 23/04/2018 22:35

Eve-lin for a boy

Ever-lin for a girl

Randomname234 · 23/04/2018 22:36

Ev-uh-lin

'er-lin' sounds a bit weird, but that might just be my west country twang.

Padfootprongs · 23/04/2018 22:36

Ever-lin

LoveYouTimMinchin · 23/04/2018 22:36

Evlin = girl

Eeevlin = boy

UrgentExitRequired · 23/04/2018 22:37

Ev-Lyn

MollyHuaCha · 23/04/2018 22:37

Eeeve-lin

FireplaceLover · 23/04/2018 22:37

Sorry that doesn’t make sense.y last post saying Eve lin doesn’t mean as in biblical first woman but rather as 3 soft sounds so e-v-e lin. If that makes sense.

I realise I’d written it the same as the way I’d said no to in my first post. Sorry.

Twogirlsandme · 23/04/2018 22:38

Sorry should have said it's for a girl

OP posts:
SemperIdem · 23/04/2018 22:38

Neither.

I’d pronounce it more like ehv-lin

Knitjob · 23/04/2018 22:39

Evlin. That's my sil. But I do know an
Ee-velin which I find quite odd. I was thought that was the male way

Twogirlsandme · 23/04/2018 22:39

Ooh goodness! Hadn't realised there had been so many previous threads on this topic!

OP posts:
FireplaceLover · 23/04/2018 22:39

It’s a nice name, OP. How would you prefer it to be pronounced?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/04/2018 22:41

There’s no r in Evelyn, can’t fathom the ever-lin pronunciation?
Clearly an accent thing
I have heard people say Ev but it’s not Adam & Ev
I’d say Eve-Linn

Really depends how you pronounce it,and how you want others to pronounce it

DamsonOnThisDress · 23/04/2018 22:41

A few Evelyns in my family.

Always pronounced as Ev-lin.

Never heard it pronounced with an r.

dotdotdotmustdash · 23/04/2018 22:41

Eve-Lin.

Where are people getting the 'r' from to make it Ever-lin?

NooNooHead1981 · 23/04/2018 22:42

I always thought that Evelyn Glennie was pronounced 'Eve-lin' but now I'm thinking about it more, I'm wondering whether it is the person whose name it is and their personal preference... but I would always pronounce it 'Eve-lin' - I think 'Ev-lin' doesn't quite sound right, to my ear.

NotTakenUsername · 23/04/2018 22:42

Grin it’s a common discussion but no definitive answer I’m afraid!

You need to decide if you can be arsed correct the half of society who will pronounce it the ‘wrong’ way!

I’d go for Fiona or something. One spelling, one pronunciation... boom! Done! Grin
