Do you say Eev-lin or evuh-Lin? Or something different to either?

Ev uh Linn

Hypermice · 26/03/2018 15:11

Eeev lin or evv lin.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 26/03/2018 15:11

Ev - e- lin

Mouthfulofquiz · 26/03/2018 15:11

Ever-lynn

PalePinkSwan · 26/03/2018 15:11

Eh-vi-lyn, emphasis on the eh.

Missingthesea · 26/03/2018 15:12

Both ways are correct Smile

TheFallenMadonna · 26/03/2018 15:16

I would always ask TBH. Because eether/eyether sounds correct to me.

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/03/2018 15:18

Depends on whether it’s a girl or boy.

Eve-Lynn for a boy and Ever-Lyn for a girl.

Sophronia · 26/03/2018 15:45

Ev-uh-lyn

kaytee87 · 26/03/2018 15:50

Ev-eh-lin

Oblomov18 · 26/03/2018 15:56

Ever-lynn.

BeyondThePage · 26/03/2018 15:58

Depends on whether it’s a girl or boy

Eve-Lynn for a boy and Ever-Lyn for a girl

I agree with this ^

PinkAvocado · 26/03/2018 16:01

The second way.

User27839494 · 26/03/2018 16:04

Eve-Lyn for a boy and Ev-uh-Lyn for a girl

HunterHearstHelmsley · 26/03/2018 16:06

I say both!

I prefer Ev-uh-lynn though. I always think Eve-lynn sounds like the name of a house where they've merged two names together 😂

chezmk1988 · 26/03/2018 16:37

Ever-lin

ephemeralfairy · 26/03/2018 16:39

My grandma was Evelyn and she and all our family pronounced it Ev-lin. Two syllables.

YolandasFridge · 26/03/2018 16:49

It just depends

My mum is Eve - Lyn but we know an Evv -Lyn too, both are female!

My mum gets annoyed if someone wrongly calls her Evv - Lyn , there's no way people can tell though I suppose

starkid · 26/03/2018 16:56

evuh-Lin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/03/2018 16:58

Ev-ln. No emphasis on any vowel aside from the first E

wetsnow · 26/03/2018 17:18

I have a dd called Evelyn

We say Ev-er-lyn

She gets called eev-lyn all the time though.. just politly correct them as it could be either way. Im not bothered and so far neither is she.

sycamore54321 · 26/03/2018 17:20

I'd say "Ev-lin". Two syllables, short vowels in both. Ev like the first syllable in Beverly, Lin like violin.

iismum · 26/03/2018 17:23

I would say that Eev-lyn is the British pronunciation, Ev-er-lyn is US or Aus - but maybe is coming in more over here, from the previous posters. Traditionally, I don't think there's a distinction between the male and the female usage - though the male usage is probably more or less obsolete these days.

I'd always assume a British Evelyn was Eev-lyn unless told otherwise.

Pemba · 26/03/2018 17:25

There are three ways, all correct AFAIK:

  1. Eev - lin. My late grandmother had this name, and I prefer this pronunciation. Also means you can more easily use 'Eve' or 'Evie' for short.
  2. Ev-lin which seems more popular now
  3. Evver-lin.
AnnieAnoniMouser · 26/03/2018 17:25

It always makes me groan because whichever I go for, you can bet they prefer it the other way.

Save her the headache and choose something else, she’ll thank you for it..
