Sebastian and Dominic

Sarahh2014 · 10/11/2017 13:50

My son's name has been mentioned and I'm not offended each to their own

pullonyourjudgypants · 10/11/2017 14:08

I think people generally dislike names after meeting someone they dislike or nasty with that name.

I’m not keen on Wayne or Dwayne. For some reason I cringe when I hear the name Glyn Confused

I have an irrational dislike of names being shortened. Like if someone is called David to me that is their name, not Dave. If they introduce themselves as Dave and sign off emails etc i might just be able to actually no it’s David.

pullonyourjudgypants · 10/11/2017 14:10

How many Jayden’s do people met? I’ve never met any. Know one colleague with a son called Hayden but seems unusual and harmless quite like it

dustarr73 · 11/11/2017 00:40

I think Haydn,Jaiden or hyphen mae people think they have to hate that name.Or its too popular.Thats bollix i would pick a name i like over whats popular,or what people think i should call my child.

EllieThornton · 11/11/2017 01:13

I don't have any great dislikes, but I do think that people should consider the whole name when choosing a first name. For example, I knew a family in Suffolk called Pipe, who named their son Dwayne.

Hotpinkangel19 · 11/11/2017 11:39

Nevaeh. It’s just terrible!!! “It’s heaven spelt backwards” 🤢
Janet

NotAgainYoda · 11/11/2017 11:46

Jasper
Quentin
Joby
Jago

pipilangstrumpf · 11/11/2017 12:10

Wouldn’t it be so dull if we all liked and chose the same names?

ShowgirlnamedLola · 11/11/2017 12:43

What a horrible, pointless, negative thread

Dixiestampsagain · 11/11/2017 16:35

I’ve got so used to people saying that as a complete sentence Hotpink that I actually think of the name as Nevaeh-that’s-heaven-spelled-backwards Jane Smith, for example. I’ve heard far worse though, to be fair.

Hotpinkangel19 · 11/11/2017 16:57

@Dixiestampsagain This is it!!! It comes as one sentence doesn’t it!

KatieKookaburra26 · 11/11/2017 17:30

My name has been mentioned along with ds1 and ds2. Dd’s name has kind of been mentioned. Doubt anyone will know ds3’s name well enough to hate it.

spankhurst · 11/11/2017 17:48

My name has been mentioned. I’m very happy as I never see it anywhere. I was the kid forlornly looking for door plaques, rulers and key rings in the gift shop. I honestly thought Nevaeh was an ancient biblical name like Naomi. Grin

weetabix07 · 12/11/2017 10:35

I’m not a fan of Hannah Leanne Margaret or Mary but each to their own. If the owner of the name is a nice person that’s the main thing 👍🏻

KatieKookaburra26 · 12/11/2017 11:18

Dd’s Name has been mentioned now. I think the only name I don’t like is Gertrude or maybe Millicent.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/11/2017 11:23

I hate the way they pronounce Joseph in Corrie like Jawziff. It makes my teeth itch.

FairyDust855 · 12/11/2017 16:15

Joshua, Harry, Harrison, Oliver.

Millie, Ellie, Katie, Lily.

sashimiyummies · 12/11/2017 22:52

I'm not crazy about names like Persephone or Serafina. I think they're a bit pretentious. I don't like Jake, Jordan or Caitlin. Obviously in real life I would never comment on anyone's name.

igotyoubabe · 12/11/2017 23:09

Aubrey (gags in mouth a little)

affectionincoldclimate · 12/11/2017 23:23

I think everyone on this thread should temporarily decamp to any American name board for perspective Grin. I used to be on Nurture app during pregnancy which had predominantly US user base. Some of the names in the name threads were nothing short of extraordinary. Here is a sampler. I remember being up with horrific heartburn and laughing hysterically at 3 am and stopped short of suggesting Klapham as a possible compliment to Kamden.

I think it's a shame when parents put nicknames on the birth certificates.
So they call them Oli rather than Oliver or Betty rather than Elizabeth.
They can always shorten it at home, but if they go on to be a lawyer or prime minister it's nice to have a long version too!

I'll echo the surnames as first names and hyphenated Christian names. Gives a bad first impression.

TheVoiceOfTreason · 14/11/2017 07:49

My name has been featured, haha. Would almost have felt mildly disappointed and left out if it hadn't been. It's one of those boringly popular 80s girl names.

No kids yet but pregnant with baby one. We've picked her name and it's not on here (although she is getting my boringly popular in the 80s, now very unfashionable name as a middle name). The name we had favoured for a little boy has been featured though!

For me, most actual names don't bother me, but deliberately quirky (i.e. Incorrect) spellings do, and people who call their kids by words that aren't actually human names like Snow (tut tut, Constance Hall) and Bear (tut tut, Cheryl Tweedy) to show how unique and different they are grate on me a bit! Chardonnay for the same reason. Even once cam across it spelt as Chardonais. 🙈

That said, for reasons someone else stated above, I'd never call my daughter Fanny (apologies to any fannies out there). There are some others that I find generally displeasing to the ear too (Ethel), and some where I just can't shift the association with one or more particularly awful examples of people with said name and thus the name is tainted for life.

OP seems to hate a LOT of names!! 🙊 the explanation of Ottilie (like a cross between Natalie and Otter gone disastrously wrong) genuinely made me lol though.

dottypotter · 14/11/2017 14:37

jobe and phoebe!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 14/11/2017 15:10

Oh heavens affection - Kashtin!

Like the thing you keep money in? A cash tin? Grin
