Donald because of Donald Trump
And Marco

Since I joined Mumsnet, I’ve become less judgemental about names and actually quite like how there are more and more individual and unique names.

However, I still have names I dislike for no good reason (just that they sound so dirgey and miserable to me):
Stanley
Arthur
Sidney

Oh another of these threads. They never end well. The dislike for hyphenated names. My name is hyphenated, no middle name. No need to be so rude people.

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/11/2017 08:45

I'm not keen on Alfie and Archie etc

Tealdeal747 · 04/11/2017 08:46

I feel sorry for dcs with ugly names like

George
Ewan

Or names that will put dcs in a box to be discriminated against

Anything- Jay
Anything- Mae
Names with incorrect spellings

Pretentious names like

Boring names like

Trendy names like

PandaCat · 04/11/2017 08:56

My DDs name has been mentioned and planned name and nn for the baby has too. Oh dear 😂😂

I'm not a fan of double barrelled first names, particularly when they are paired with Leigh/Lee.

I’m hope the doctors/surgeons I know called Gary and Darren are pleased their names are considered ‘low class’ by some. And since when has Oliver ever been ‘trendy’?

whoareyoukidding · 04/11/2017 10:09

Can i have malcolm, derek and trevor, beryl and mavis

pipilangstrumpf · 04/11/2017 10:31

To me the most important purpose of a name is to identify its owner!

So I dislike common names like Jack, Harry, Ellie, Evie because they do not serve this purpose. There are far too many of them that these names have become dull and not useful in serving their purpose.

Wh1stles · 04/11/2017 10:34

Once, I laughed so much, on the baby board somebody suggested my son's name so as it's unusual for his age group I clicked on it. Another poster had done a whole post of 'nos'. just rows and rows of no no no no no no no. I think it's a great name and I've never met a pretentious, dangerous, dopey, condescending, lazy or hyper man with this name.

QueenCharming · 04/11/2017 10:40

Makes me Grin how many names people can roll off that they dislike, like they have it pre-prepared and thought out just incase this question is asked. I really dont understand name bashing threads and what can be gained from it. I don’t hate any names as I can’t be arsed to care

Inkandbone · 04/11/2017 10:41

For boys, I don't like most names! We did eventually name our son but his name is quite boring. It suits him though (not because he's boring, it's just quite a traditional but not poncey name.)

I don't like first names as surnames - Mason, Harrison, Taylor

I don't like boring names - James, Oliver, Jack, Harry. Don't like H names for boys or girls as people drop the H. I do actually really like Henry but couldn't cope with Enree.

I like many girls names in contrast. My favourites are Eleanor, Sophia, Flora, Isabella, Jessica, Juliet and Willow.

But I hate pretty much all Welsh names.

Madreputa · 04/11/2017 10:50

I only like about 5-6 names in the world, mix of boys' and girls' names.. If I had to change my name I would find it really hard to choose one that I like and isn't overused. I pretty much dislike other names.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 04/11/2017 10:57

I know some fabulous people with names that have been mentioned here.

My only dislike are names that aren’t the usual spelling. Parents who do this just condemn their child to a lifetime of spelling out their name to people.

Marcipex · 04/11/2017 11:00

Jay, Jayden , Kayden, Hayden etc
Kai
Mae
Doreen, Maureen etc
George, Georgia, Georgina
Ewan
Blodwen

Beequeeny · 04/11/2017 11:25

Oliver was the most popular name last year wasn't it? Id say that makes it trendy.

Don't really like Henry, Oliver, Caroline, Alison - just boring

Beequeeny · 04/11/2017 11:25

Blodwen? Never heard that before, it's horrid!

Tealdeal747 · 04/11/2017 11:28

There are names I don't like because I associate them with people I don't like but that's not to say they are bad names.

Anna
Faye
Gordon
Stewart
Alison

Tealdeal747 · 04/11/2017 11:31

Hyphenated names that don't go together and just sound like the parents couldn't choose and gave the dc 2 names e.g.

Lexi-Maria
Henry-Leo

Annabelle4 · 04/11/2017 11:35

I thought of another one. Ok it's not a name, and it's a soap, but 'Becks' (Bex)? in Eastenders also makes me shudder.

Rebecca is such a beautiful name. Whyyy would anyone do that to it? Confused

Dixiestampsagain · 04/11/2017 11:54

I know beequeeny but I always think of trendy as meaning fashionable or up to date and I don’t think of it as either. I like it though, so I should be defending it!!

formerbabe · 04/11/2017 11:58
