'Hate' is pretty strong. I think there's only three names I can think of that I feel that negatively about:

Agatha
Gertrude
Ursula

They just have such ugly, harsh sounds to my ears. But I do think that if I ever met one (never known a child or adult with any of those names) then I'd probably grow to at least just 'dislike' it.

Carouselfish · 03/11/2017 21:22

Joan I read a lot of Victorian novels and what sticks in my mind re. those names is that if the domestic staff had names considered too good for their station, their mistress would 'change' their name to one of those!!!

I don't like Georgia. Or George.

Muddlingalongalone · 03/11/2017 21:22

Well I'm on here as is dd2, just waiting for dd1 to pop up now. Am not offended at all. Each to their own.
For me unlike most of mn I can't abide what to me are "old person" names. Elsie, Ivy, Ethel, Archie etc

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 03/11/2017 21:22

Kai

Names with 'th' sounds.
Madison

Paige

Annabelle4 · 03/11/2017 21:28

Phoebe makes me shiver. It's just so harsh... Fee Bee Confused

Not keen on names that end in 'ie' either - Ellie, Evie, Katie, etc. I much prefer an 'A' ending or none, e.g. Ella, Kate.

I don't like surnames as first names, or the letter 'K' (Kai, Kody, Kayleigh etc)

Mugshotzforlunch · 03/11/2017 21:31

Chloe it just doesn't sit right with me. Plus I always think of Vanessa redgrave in deep impact calling Chloe chlorine. Grin

Viviennemary · 04/11/2017 00:35

Ethel is awful. it was old fashioned even when I was a child. And Toby for a boy I'm not keen on either. Or Paige. I wouldn't care if one of my DC's names appeared on here or mine. It would be a bit mad if everyone picked the same name. Only approved by MN.

dustarr73 · 04/11/2017 00:55

There's only 1 name I truly dislike and it's Violet.Reminds me so much of violence and it's such a harsh sounding name.

euanthesheepiloveyou · 04/11/2017 02:01

Mason
Lexi
Jenson
Kaci-Leigh (and the vast majority of hyphenated names)
Demi
Jaxon
Jayden
Harrison

Stringofpearls · 04/11/2017 06:40

I wouldn't say I hate it but I find the name Hannah very difficult to like. This is because it's the name of someone who constantly made me miserable at school. I find the same with the name Keith, who was a seedy boss I despised. However if I met others with these names now I think that the negative association would probably change.

Beequeeny · 04/11/2017 06:55

String- all hannahs I've met have been complete bitches!

SuperBeagle · 04/11/2017 07:42

I've never liked Caitlin.

And I don't like "low-class" 60s/70s male names, like Gary, Wayne, Shane, Darren, Derrick, Shannon etc.

stellarfox · 04/11/2017 08:30

The only names I really dislike are tacky made up names like Nevaeh “heaven spelt backwards”.

chipscheeseandgravy · 04/11/2017 08:36

My names popped up, my sons name usually flies under the radar, but I’m sure you would all hate it :)

Don’t like ‘unique’ spellings or names I can’t pronounce 😂

Carebear1357 · 04/11/2017 08:39

It would be quicker to say the names I do like! I only like 3 or 4 names in this world Grin

RickOShay · 04/11/2017 08:40

Both my sons’ names have been mentionedGrin
and a possible nm for my dd’s name Grin
oh well
