It has a pretty sound to it. Personally I'd start referring to her a 'Callie'. I associate Calais with refugees and the port.
She beautiful. Congrats. Thanks

Beautiful baby OP. Enjoy her and I hope you get some rest soon Flowers

MrsBungle · 08/04/2016 17:41

Aaah she's cute Smile

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 17:42

People call their babies "india" "brooklyn" "paris" etc. Theirs people suffering in India etc. What do people think of that? Just wondering if it's really so different. :S
If that's what you all think off I accept your opinions.

Thank you.
I'm biased but she is beautiful

It has a nice sound to it.

I wpuld have spelt it dufferently to town with all its awful connotations.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2016 17:50

No I haven't.

And I think I know the reason but my opinions would come across as rude given you have already named your DD that.

ThirtyNineWeeks · 08/04/2016 17:55

It's rubbish and chavvy.

kippersyllabub · 08/04/2016 17:58

I think it's unusual but pretty. Brooklyn and Harlem have their fate share of problems but they are accepted as names.

Calais isn't just a town, the region nord pas de Calais is a region which has a beauty to it.

Good luck with your new ddFlowers

Hi Timetogrowup,

We've had a few reports about this thread now and we can see you're getting a bit of a hard time here. Just wondered if you'd like us to pull the thread? We'll happily do that.

Beautiful baby, by the way. Smile Flowers

Archfarchnad
I also live in a country with a list of allowed names, and the more I look at this board, the more I agree with you

RattieOfCatan · 08/04/2016 18:09

Have you ever been to Calais OP? Last time I went it was a grim place and that was 10+ years ago.

You came onto a forum with an odd name asking for opinions, you must have known that people would tell you what they think?!

I also associate Calais with refugees and a dingy place.

SamanthaBrique · 08/04/2016 18:11

Call the next one Chernobylle, I hear that's a lovely place too.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 18:18

Hi mumsnet thanks but it's ok.
People entitled to their own opinions.
I'm not angry they hate the name just angry at being accused of being a troll.

You could go the whole hog and give the poor mite 'auschwitz' for a middle name.....

AndNowItsSeven · 08/04/2016 18:19

No, I move in more sensible circle where people call their DC actual human names.

Floggingmolly · 08/04/2016 18:23

People entitled to their own opinions. That's big of you, op, given that you've started a thread soliciting those same opinions...

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 18:26

No I haven't solicited them.
I've said fair enough all along to them I'm annoyed at being accused of being a troll. I've said that !!!

Gorgeous baby op.

I didn't realise It was even a name at all TBH so yes very unusual here. Before the current refugee crisis I'd of equated it with other grim towns like Slough or Aldershot but now it's a bit more negative with its connotations.
However I also know a four year old called Isis, after the Egyptian Goddess, and obviously since she was born that's got a bad rep. Her parents take the view that all these terrorist groups won't be remembered in a few years and it's not even how they are universally referred by anyway.

I think if she doesn't like it then she can always give herself a nickname anyway, I did when I was a kid. Its not my favourite thing to name kids after places but then I bet some people think my DC'S names are very boring.

Floggingmolly · 08/04/2016 18:35

...wondered if anyone had heard it before/opinions (good or bad) on it
Concentrate, op, instead of bollocking people for answering a question you couldn't remember asking. Honestly Hmm

MrsS1990 · 08/04/2016 18:36

Calais sounds pretty.

But anyone with a brain cell would know it's not a place to associate your child with at the moment!
Syria also sounds pretty op- maybe for baby no 2

Floggingmolly · 08/04/2016 18:38

All these terrorist groups won't be remembered in a few years anyway
Sweet suffering Jesus, I give up...

notamummy10 · 08/04/2016 18:38

Calais is an unusual name, but it does make me think of the camp in France...

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 18:39

All I said was my opinion is names like brooklyn and India are accepted

I'm not slating people's opinions

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 18:41

Ffs I got annoyed at people accusing Me of trolling.
I've already said your entitled to your opinions because that's what I asked for.
