Dd named calais and wondered if anyone had heard it before/opinions (good or bad) on it.
I'd never heard it as a name until oh mentioned it but I love it now

Of course it's a port, it even says so on the photo you've posted.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 17:02

' a port city '
Yes. It also says town in France
And I was only joking. Sheesh.

Taken on the chin? All well and good, bully for you, but it's not your name is it?? It now belongs to someone who has to 'take it on the chin' for, potentially, the next 80-100 years Hmm

gymboywalton · 08/04/2016 17:03

the picture you have posted says 'a port city'

Never met a person called Calais but used to drive a Holden Calais many years ago.

SamanthaBrique · 08/04/2016 17:07

Imagine a chic French family introducing themselves 'This is Antoine, and Jean-Michelle, and our little daughter Grimsby!'

I think that's expecting a bit much, in OP's case it'd probably be "This is Jayden, and Chardonnay, and our little daughter Calais"!!

Toadsrevisited · 08/04/2016 17:09

How are you pronouncing it then? If you know another one written Calley? Also didn't you just say you had never met another one? But now you have Hmm

I never say this but the Easter holidays seem longer this year, don't you think everyone?

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 17:09

Hate the names jayden and chardonnay.

If next baby is a boy or girl it'll be phoenix. Love it for a boy or girl

Just make sure you go for a really unique spelling like Feenikz...

Lovelongweekends · 08/04/2016 17:12

Used to teach two sisters called Porsche and Calais - I think Calais got the better end of the deal!!

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 17:12

I know one other yes.
Never met her
Should of said "know off" one other
This is my dd and I'm not on easter holiday.
I've done nothing wrong except ask if anyone knew of any so fuck off. I asked for opinions good or bad on the name but stop picking on me

OP we all know Calais is a town in France - a very rough and poor one. What we also know, that you seem unaware of, is that in that town is a refugee camp full of abject misery and suffering and that is what people think of when they hear your child's name. Your precious baby who has to live with the result of your ignorance her whole life.

It's like calling a kid 'Stinky-sue' then saying 'Oh I don't mind what people think' like what you think actually matters when people are sneering at your kid their whole life.

Toadsrevisited · 08/04/2016 17:18

It's not picking on you to point out

  1. The unsuitability of a name and the negative connotations associated with it
  2. Inconsistencies in your posts
  3. How strangely apt your username is
  4. How there has been a recent influx of trolling especially in the baby names boards and using photos as 'evidence'
  5. How odd it seems to ask for opinions on/ familiarity with a name already given to a baby
kelda · 08/04/2016 17:18

Yes it is an unfortunate name, considering the refugee camps.

And no, never heard of another, not in all the places I've lived in.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 17:20

Oh ffs don't most people with a new baby have to do some degree of growing up.
I made a mistake and didn't write "know off "
Grow up love. Stop reading so much into it

MissusWrex · 08/04/2016 17:20

Nah I'm not buying it.

No one is that silly/cruel.

GraysAnalogy · 08/04/2016 17:23

As soon as I read it I imagined refugees and lorry drivers.

maybebabybee · 08/04/2016 17:23

Op is not a troll. She's a regular on our March post natal thread. And she's had a difficult time of it so lay off with the nastiness.

GraysAnalogy · 08/04/2016 17:24

I can't imagine anyone who stays up to date with current news naming their child Calais.

Timetogrowup2016 · 08/04/2016 17:24

Your not buying it ?

Thank you maybe.
I don't mind the bad opinions on her name but I don't like being accused of being a troll.
Wish I was on easter holidays though.

I could have a full nights sleep and luxurious lie ins then .

OP posts:
HumTiddlyTum · 08/04/2016 17:36

I know a Callie.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 08/04/2016 17:38

OP what do you think about the associations of refugees, suffering and neglect that people will associate with your daughter's name?
