Ok, so not official but today I met an uber cool mum. You know, effortlessly chic with stunning DH and beautiful boden catalogue children? Anyway, she had a 2yr old DS called Jonny and baby twin girls called...Pamela and Jennifer. Now I'm not sure if Jennifer has ever gone out of fashion but Pamela certainly had, surely? She called them Jen and Pam too! I said I thought her children were beautiful and that she was probably setting a new trend in 60s retro cool names (I meant this genuinely). She said yes, she was quite sure that by the time her Pam was 10, Pamela would be the new Florence. I believed her too!
I realised I'm probably outing where I live as there can't be that many but hey, I thought it was cool!

I have a 70's name. I can't wait until it becomes cool. I was going to say 'again' but it was never cool in the first place.

squoosh · 04/10/2014 17:00

I love the name Pamela. Also love Samantha and Christine.

burgatroyd · 04/10/2014 17:43

I love Elaine

nilbyname · 04/10/2014 17:45

I thought Linda and Christina were the coolest and most exotic names when I was a kid!

MizLizLemon · 04/10/2014 17:51

Will anyone ever have the guts to try to revive Sharon do you think? I actually think it's a really nice name but it got so trashed in the 80s by people using it in much the way people use the term "Essex girl" now that I wonder if it'll come back I'm my lifetime.

Owllady · 04/10/2014 17:54

I love the name Jennifer and I have NEVER met a horrible Pam

My daughter has a very 60s/70s name and I don't know any other 15 year olds with it

Squeegle · 04/10/2014 17:56

The most popular names in my class (started school 1970) we're Catherine and Debbie. Also Jane, Sarah and Louise. They're all pretty unfashionable now I think. I can't imagine them being used for today's babies. Or am I wrong?

YoungBritishPissArtist · 04/10/2014 17:56

She's ahead of the curve! I think Lily/Ellie May/Alfie etc will sound very dated in 10 or so years.

Bowlersarm · 04/10/2014 17:58

Not sure I would have put Jonny and Jenny together.

Owl the only Pamela's I know are horrible!

Lemon' Sharon will come back because it's biblical. I think it'll be a decade or two away though.

Ludways · 04/10/2014 18:00

When people say 60/70's name will never come back as they're awful, it makes me laugh. Of course they'll come back, I think it's ridiculous to think otherwise. Each generation makes their own rules and fashions.

MummyBeerest · 04/10/2014 18:00

I love it. Pam for a little girl would be sweet. Jonny just sounds awesome. I'm mixed on Jennifer (that's my own problem)

Although, did Sarah ever really go away?

EdithWeston · 04/10/2014 18:00

I think that, after the Victoria Woods PAM! sketch it might be a little slower than the others to make a comeback.

Other common than: Sarah, Donna, Deborah, Michelle, Tracey, Joanne

Owllady · 04/10/2014 18:06

I know quite a few young Sarah's . It's a lovely name
Lol I met all the nice Pam's :) I met all the horrible Susan's. Does that help? :o

Yama · 04/10/2014 18:10

My Dad loves the name Sharon. Thankfully, he didn't realise think in the 70's.

Yama · 04/10/2014 18:13

realise this

thatsn0tmyname · 04/10/2014 18:16

I'm surprised that Lisa hasn't come back yet. It's pretty and was the cool girls name back in the day.

BirdhouseInYourSoul · 04/10/2014 18:17

I met a 2 year old Linda recently.

I'm surprised it isn't more common actually.

Yama · 04/10/2014 18:18

Thats - my Dad suggested Lisa when I was pregnant with dd 9 years ago.

CitronVert · 04/10/2014 18:43

I know a little Samantha and a little Alison which were both popular back when I was at school. I think lots of 60s and 70s names are lovely.

calzone · 04/10/2014 18:47

I like Caroline. Smile

Sicaq · 04/10/2014 18:50

I like Sharon and Sarah; both pretty names with millennia-long histories.

Charitygirl1 · 04/10/2014 19:00

I LOVE Angela. And Gloria.

Charitygirl1 · 04/10/2014 19:00

Oh, and Gina.

shakemysilliesout · 04/10/2014 19:13

What about 70s boys names? We've had all the girls so far- due in 7 days - what's he male Pamela?!

Lunastarfish · 04/10/2014 19:13

My DP is trying to convince me that when we have a daughter she should be called Samantha.

I really like Caroline and Trevor
