Ok, so not official but today I met an uber cool mum. You know, effortlessly chic with stunning DH and beautiful boden catalogue children? Anyway, she had a 2yr old DS called Jonny and baby twin girls called...Pamela and Jennifer. Now I'm not sure if Jennifer has ever gone out of fashion but Pamela certainly had, surely? She called them Jen and Pam too! I said I thought her children were beautiful and that she was probably setting a new trend in 60s retro cool names (I meant this genuinely). She said yes, she was quite sure that by the time her Pam was 10, Pamela would be the new Florence. I believed her too!
I realised I'm probably outing where I live as there can't be that many but hey, I thought it was cool!

Charitygirl1 · 04/10/2014 21:32

Oh Tethersend, how fab!

Lookingforfocus · 04/10/2014 21:45

I know children called Patty, Susan and Simon.

AtiaoftheJulii · 04/10/2014 21:50

I know a 16 year old Mark. And a 5 year old Lorraine.

Beastofburden · 04/10/2014 21:55

I started school in 1966.

Not called Amanda Smile

Gary, yes, everyone was called Gary. Unless they were called Kevin.

The problem is I can only remember nicknames. Pillsbury the doughboy... What was he really called?

NancyJones · 04/10/2014 21:56

Sorry , we've been out all afternoon. I love Patty. Really cute. I was just shocked at Pam and interested as her mum was so cool. Also that the mum was quite sure that she was ahead of the crowd and there'd be lots of Pams in a few years.

A pp mentioned Mary. I actually know two children under 10 called Mary. I know it's not as popular but I don't associate it with any particular era in the way I do with Pamela.

newrecruit · 04/10/2014 22:02

On our playground there's a baby Kev

Mum is not an uber cool Boden type though.

Lookingforfocus · 04/10/2014 22:10

What about

Angela - Angie
Kelly/Kelli
Terri
Stephanie

Shane
Ian
Jason

EBearhug · 04/10/2014 22:12

MehsMum's list is very familiar!

We had an Emily though (we were born 1971/2.)

There were lots of variation of Katherine/Catherine/Kathryn/Kate/Kathy/Kat.
Claire/Clair/Clare.
Rachel/Rachael

Kerry, Nicola, Tessa, Zoe, Lisa.

(I have the complete list of our year, as I am meant to be thinking about a school reunion. So I have all the names.)

And I am an Emma (though actually, I was the only one until secondary school, at which point we gained two others.)

Delphiniumsblue · 04/10/2014 22:16

They all come around again eventually - if you can get dire names like Ivy and Wilfred then anything is possible! (Even Nigel)
Some are just classics like Sarah and Matthew and never go away. I am pleased to have one as it doesn't date me.

MehsMum · 04/10/2014 22:18

I'd forgotten Gary and Lorraine. Or, rather the Garys and the Lorraines. And the Nickys and Marks.

It's all coming back... The horrible haircuts, the huge tie knots, everyone listening to the Top Ten at lunchtime.

mollymawk · 04/10/2014 22:21

I am a 70s girl and I knew loads of Gillians and Karens. Time for them to return too?

Sunbeam18 · 04/10/2014 22:40

I was born in 1972 and had two Connies in my class, as well as a Doreen, a Joan, a Jean and an Elspeth! We also had a Pamela!

EBearhug · 04/10/2014 22:57

We had a Pamela, but Doreen, Joan and Jean I think of more as my parents' generation, if not even a bit older.

Wafflenose · 04/10/2014 23:12

I know a little girl called Gloria! And boys called Stephen, Robert and Simon (baby).

I was born in 1977. The most popular names when I was at school seemed to be Sarah, Katherine, Helen, Karen and Caroline for girls, and Andrew, Simon, Nicholas, Christopher and David for boys.

Has anyone mentioned Graham yet? There were still a few around when I was growing up. I think most of them are in their 40s/ 50s now.

minkah · 04/10/2014 23:26

NetballHoop · 04/10/2014 23:45

My bothers were at school 70's-80's with:

Julian
Toby
Chris
Edward
John
Mike
Austin
Crispin

I do like the name Julian, but Crispin is just too cruel.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/10/2014 23:55

born in 69, and my school year was peppered with Jacquelines, Tracys, Tricias, Anns, Deborahs, Susans and Janes, with the odd Wendy and Lorna thrown in. There were eight Jacquelines alone in my year at high school.

Boys, several Darrens, Bruces, Colins, Allans and a load of Craigs and Sandys (Scotland)

I met a two year old Carol the other day; it didn't sit well on her imo. Most of the Carols I know are in their late 40s/early 50s

LackaDAISYcal · 04/10/2014 23:56

Oh, yes, forgot about Graham/Graeme....several in my year.
