Help me find a boys name...

I am going to be really fussy, dismissive for ridiculous reasons and probably sound like an arse on this thread. But I am really stuck. We've had a girls name set for a few months and I am still happy with it. But the boys name.. we keep going off them.

I need help.

I don't want anything common, in both senses of the word.

Our list thus far has been:
Jackson
Deacon
Brodie
Caleb

And I liked them all at first, and now I hate them. I think they sound chavvy. I have a DS with a top 10 name and thankfully he goes by a lesser used NN anyway, but still, I don't want to repeat that. He's one of 4 in his year.

HELP!

Theonlyoneiknow · 20/01/2014 11:36

Well in Scotl

Theonlyoneiknow · 20/01/2014 11:39

Sorry, phone!

Well I was only looking in Scotland and I found quite a few place names that we liked ie, I liked Sheigra for a girl (and we also have lots of happy memories from climbing there). Lots of places in the Western Islands especially (for us)

Juno77 · 20/01/2014 11:47

Oh I know a Merrick as well! Didn't know it was a hill though Blush

Thought of another few I like that were all vetoed by dh

Royston
Clyde
Innes
Struan
Jefferson
Rufus
Heath
Laith

Juno77 · 20/01/2014 14:46

I like Jefferson but hate Jeff/Jeffrey as a NN.

Clyde is a river Grin
Royston reminds me of the league of gentlemen!
Rufus best reserved for dogs..

Those are also the reasons why ds is not called these, lol
apart from I quite like jeff for a nn.

Theonlyoneiknow · 20/01/2014 15:04

What is your Ds's name? That might help suggestions?

Juno77 · 20/01/2014 15:05

It won't help.

It is a name I would never choose again, it's a lovely name but it is perennial top 10.

Jessie /jesse is definitely without a shadow of a doubt a girls name in Scotland

TeacupDrama · 20/01/2014 17:25

Peregrine, Sebastian, Augustine definitely not chavvy or common

AngelaDaviesHair · 20/01/2014 17:26

Arne

Thorsten
Daniel
Stefan
Victor
Grey
Bron
Gareth
Gavin
Griff
And Jackson is naff, sorry.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 20/01/2014 17:33

You haven't commented on Thurston - that's fab.

You seem to like L names- what about Lawrence/Laurence, with Lawrie for short? A pretty trad and very strong short form which Scots will know, but it isn't that popular.

Other ideas:

Maxim

Eldon

Heath

Griff

Jonas

ToffeeJungle · 20/01/2014 19:28

Robson
Hayden
Marcus
Gabriel
Jared

Juno77 · 20/01/2014 20:06

Peregrine? Hmm

Thurston is also awful.

Couldn't call a child Lawrie. Like a lorry.

Gavin. Baby Gavin. Oh dear.

Do you have any kind of short list now OP ?

misshoohaa · 20/01/2014 21:02

Good luck OP! You seem truly stuck, let's hope its a girl.......

Juno77 · 20/01/2014 21:07

No short list.

I haven't added a single name.

I'm doomed. Sad

Have you tried looking through your favourite books for ideas?

Juno77 · 20/01/2014 21:18

We've tried everything.

We just don't like any boys names.

OP posts:
Theonlyoneiknow · 20/01/2014 21:20

Are you going to find out the gender beforehand?

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 20/01/2014 21:28

Just stick "son" on the end of your girl's name; job done...
