Help me find a retro-ish name!

Not Jean Grin

I'm 6 weeks pregnant with DC2. Just playing around with names Smile

If baby is a boy he will most likely be Frank after my granda.

A girl is more difficult! DD is Cassie and we love her name. Not on the dreaded top 40 list but wacky not wacky either.

I like straightforward, pretty but non-flowery names with a retro feel.

I love Betty (and Betsy) but stupidly named the dog that not anticipating any more babies!

What do we think of my current favourite, Cherry? Not to everyone's taste I know but I'm in love with it right now Grin.

I also like Dulcie, Violet, Maggie (my father would disown me for Thatcher) and Ivy and I like Dahlia but DP doesn't.

Any ideas?

Out of Cherry, Dulcie and Marnie, I would go for Cherry. I think it ages best and is more beautiful- cherry blossom etc;

I have a short list of names which I love some of them are quite modern but I must admit the more olde worldy names I am slightly more in favour of ....

Thoughts on Elsie for a girl?
And Freddy for a boy?

Find out what I'm having hopefully Jan 17th and I feel once I know B/G I'll have more of an intuition towards a definite name as it's all a bit up in the air atm!!

Some people wait to see they're baby before naming it but I personally think one name suits all, your baby makes the name it's own it's the one who has to live with it for the rest of their life!!

I know a Lorelie ('ee' sound at the end), slightly different to Lorelai so maybe dp would prefer? Her nn is Laurie Smile

Ooooh loads more posts! Thank you all!

I'm still in love with Cherry. I like your cherry blossom comment Skifra Its my favourite plant. The house I grew up in had a huge one right outside the living room window Smile and I have a big cherry blossom print my my bedroom wall.

Dulcie is still up there too. Have gone right off Marnie though.

Of all the new suggestions I like Minnie (but that damn mouse!), Kitty (which is a no go as Cassie is named after a Catherine), Dottie, Cleo and Pearl.

Billy I think Emerald is pretty fabulous actually but DP snorted his tea when I mentioned it [anger] Grin.

I just know that now with all these beautiful girl's names in my arsenal it's going to be a boy Grin.

I had a dream last night that I gave birth to a baby girl and called her Cherry Frances (my mum is Frances).

My MIL is Iris

Report
BunnyLebowski · 05/01/2014 11:15

I don't like Iris but thank you Nata Smile.

Now that I think about it, I don't really like names that begin with vowels or overly vowel-y names.
