Not Jean Grin

I'm 6 weeks pregnant with DC2. Just playing around with names Smile

If baby is a boy he will most likely be Frank after my granda.

A girl is more difficult! DD is Cassie and we love her name. Not on the dreaded top 40 list but wacky not wacky either.

I like straightforward, pretty but non-flowery names with a retro feel.

I love Betty (and Betsy) but stupidly named the dog that not anticipating any more babies!

What do we think of my current favourite, Cherry? Not to everyone's taste I know but I'm in love with it right now Grin.

I also like Dulcie, Violet, Maggie (my father would disown me for Thatcher) and Ivy and I like Dahlia but DP doesn't.

Any ideas?

babyfedleaning · 29/11/2013 16:04

Or...
Sylvia
Iris
Vi (violet/ viola/ vivienne)

RobinSparkles · 29/11/2013 16:08

She's Lottie although officially she's Charlotte as I loved both when I was pregnant but now the only person who calls her Charlotte is my mum!

ppeatfruit · 29/11/2013 16:10

Libby is the ,famous many years ago, name of a maker of evaporated milk (showing age now!).

LoreleisSecret · 29/11/2013 16:14

Lorelei.
It is the most wonderful, underused name ever.
One day I'll have a little Lorelei I can only produce males ??

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 16:14

Lottie is lovely Smile. Good choosing Grin .

I'm stuck on Cherry, Dulcie or Marnie.

Or Frank Grin .

My dd was very nearly Cassie bunny-how strange!-would have been short for Cassandra though which dh loves but I changed my mind at the last minute which I regret a wee bit now!

I love Cherry! also like Annie.

I like Rita or Veronica but fear they may be too grannyish for you!

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 16:15

OMG I love Lorelai!!

As an obsessive Gilmore Girls fan I wanted to call DD1 Lorelai (Rory) but DP said no Angry .

Nothing wrong with Pauline.

Cherry
Dulcie
Violet
Iris

All lovely.

WoollyNortherner · 29/11/2013 16:26

I have an auntie called Iris and she's a lovely lady and it is a lovely name. If I would have had a dd, that would have been top of the list :)

What about Connie, Florence, Violet or Esther?

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 16:27

I don't like Iris.

Too vowel-y and makes me think of eyeballs.

DP has ixnayed Florence.

You like 'ee' names don't you? OK, here goes:

Ginnie
Laurie
Phyllis
Clarice (Clarrie)
Sylvie
Syrie
Marti (Caine, remember her? OK, p'raps not best example)
Toni
Winnie (love this one)
Ivy
Judy
Jeannie (I know a Jeannie, seems a fun name, so different from Jean)

CheeseStrawWars · 29/11/2013 16:29

Before you commit to Cherry, you know it is fairly widely used as slang for virginity/hymen? As in "have you still got your cherry?", "have you lost your cherry?", "have you popped your cherry?" E.g. see onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/cherry Fine if you still want to go ahead with it, just be aware.

BikeRunSki · 29/11/2013 16:29

Libby
Mabel
Gladys

Arthur
Stanley
Eric

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2013 16:30

I love Winnie but had an absolute horror of a great-aunt called Winnie who once told me I was fat.

Can't use it Grin.

Yes someone has already pointed that out Cheese and like I said I'm not overly bothered about it.

People will always find negative things about names if they want to. And if they want to then they're assholes. Not my problem.

Plus I think that expression is on the wane, culturally speaking. You don't hear teenagers referring to popping their cherries anymore.

There's nothing wrong with Pauline, of course there's not, it's a perfectly normal name. But to me it's very 'of it's time' in a way that isn't cool or retro or cute, which after all was the OP's brief.

Pauline, to me, is akin with names such as Joan, Brenda, Norma, Sandra, June and Eileen. Names that are usually prefaced with 'Aunty' because there's frequently one in the family, or amongst your mum's friends or your friends' mums.

AngelaDaviesHair · 29/11/2013 16:33

Abbie/Abby
Babs (ha ha)
Dyllis (sp?)
Edwina
Pamela
Emmeline
Sheila
Sheridan (Sherry to her friends. Fino at home)
Felicia
Margery (this must win your approval, OP. It is magnificently 'old lady' and ends with an 'ee' sound).

Mefisto · 29/11/2013 16:55

Love Cherry and Marnie and Frank.

Dolly is cool but also puts me in mind of reminds me of the film Personal Services - Dolly! You've got a willy!.

Bonnie (channelling Faye Dunaway)? Or how about Faye (Wray)?

LoreleisSecret · 29/11/2013 17:02

Could you just get rid of your DH and have Lorelei anyway ? that's my plan

I love Gilmore girls too! The name seems to follow me.

Mckayz · 29/11/2013 17:07

Oh I love Lorelei!!

LittleMissRed · 29/11/2013 17:08

Love Bibi but maybe would make two dds with initials C and B a bit "CBBC"ish iykwim.

Also love Lottie and Elsie.

Polly
Emmie (I know one and think it is lovely. Nor short for Emma/Emily)

If we had had a DD it was to be Esme, but that was back in the day when it was quite rare - hear it a lot now.
