Really struggling to come up with a name for DS2 (due in a few weeks)
I like slightly older names, as does DH. But I've got a real thing about people shortening names! DS1 is Harry and there are a few people we know who insist on shortening it to Har it drives me mad! So we're after a similar name for DS2.
Any suggestions welcome Wink

I have a Jack and a Finn... Neither get shortened... Its enough for me to remember the right name for the right boy!!
My bro James has never had his name shortened as far as I know... Mum put her foot down in the early days and James has stuck.

All the best with the new arrival OP!! Might be feeling broody now

My mum was the same, my name can be shortened and she hated it. She named my brothers mark and Ian. Mark at school was called Marcus and Ian was called ed as his middle name is Edward! My poor mum couldn't win!

I've picked harry for little one due in may! Good luck! X

My DS1 (4.2) is called John. I loved it because I have known many Johns and never knew any that I didn't like. Also kept both sides of the family happy (Johns on both sides).
I adored the simplicity of it and still do. John is 4 and I have never ever heard of another child under 10 with the same name. Then again, I live in SW London and you can't move for Noahs, Theos and Oscars.
Only problem I have is that people assume it must be short for Jonathan and LENGTHEN it to Jonathan! I correct them.

We have a Cory which I thought wouldn't be shortened but other children do!

D or G or J or K

All these work and can't be shortened.

We just chose names that we could live with if they were shortened. Harry was one and ended up being Hal for a while but has gone back to Harry.

I have an Aaron, his middle name is John, so gets referred to as AJ by some. I've also heard Ron being used as a shortened version. But he'll always be Aaron to me!

Once boys get into secondary school they often use each surnames which each other (with my brothers, DH, BIL, etc.) so if you have one that is suitable for a nickname, doesn't matter what the first name is.

Or they'll end up with nicknames that have nothing to do with their name at all.

Eg Bogie, Foost, Misty (picking nicknames I remember from school)...Misty was named Misty as he missed the school bus most mornings, but we could see him running after it. I didn't ever know his real name.

Ellis, Ian, Paul, Aaron, Xavier, Mark

It's actually really hard to think of many when you try!

I know a Mark who's Markie, a Paul who's Paulie, Aaron who's Ronnie and a Xavier who's Xav. It's virually impossible to dictate what they will end up being called and after all in the end it is their name and if they want to be called something else it will happen.
