I know someone whose daughter and son are called Paris and Troy. Really! Aside from being utter rubbish, I mean, if we are going with mythology Paris is a boy not a girl, and Troy is a place not a person! Its Paris and Hector surely? Or Troy and Mesopotamia?

So can you top that? Go on, I could do with a laugh.

Go and have a look at Nameberry - none say 'prostitutes' for the name meaning.

Connotation-wise, you could extend the name meanings, but is that really okay to do here??? Like what Pickled said, these are childrens names. It just feels wrong labelling kids names like this.

And, the OP implored us all to keep things amicable, didn't she?

there is a boy in the Boots Health and Beauty mag this month called

Swastik

Its a real name! - but he does look asian if that explains it and he's
in the mag as he is in hospital so not intending to be mean. never heard that one before.

Luckily we don't live in the 1500s so that's not really relevant is it?

I have no problem at all with people not liking names but these threads always end up with prostitute chav or trailer trash thrown about.

It's just not a nice way to refer to kids in my opinion.

It's a Hindu symbol Rocket. It was corrupted by the Germans. It has been used as a name for years before the Nazis ever existed.

But you are Goralka. I have tried to be a lot more careful since MrsDeVere pointed out that, whatever the name, it was chosen with love and care by the parent as something they thought was beautiful and they're not just a collection of letters, they're a child. I still loathe some of the names but try to bite my tongue more.

Why would you name your dc something so terrible MrsD come on Freya, Sophie, Finn, Oscar and Lily, I'm suprised the registar let you get away with it!

What is wrong with cardi, jeans, boots and a haircut. Much better then letting dear felix keep his curls even though the school keep unreasonably telling you to cut it.

To be fair, a thread of mine was deleted earlier because I'd unknowingly used a disablist term when ranting about a Post Office worker Blush

The term hasn't been used for ages, and I used the word in the context of 'idiot', so I've definitely been to Putting-My-Foot-In-My-Mouth-Land before now ...
