Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

Anything beginning in K, it's an ugly letter shape to me, compared to C

I agree about the -ie ending names. To me they feel like they will eventually impose a babyish name on an adult.

Also Mia, it means "mine", which I think is a terrible label for a person.

Shoobidooh - Niamh and Siobahn are not English names but I imagine their spelling makes sense in the languages they evolved from. We take our understanding of how to pronounce them from those languages. Navaeh is just an English word spelt backwards and therefore it has no history or cultural root to help understand how to pronounce it.

jellybeans · 29/06/2012 11:24

Archie, I just really don't like it. Also Felicity and Morgan.

HipHopGorilla · 29/06/2012 11:31

Gertrude
Bernardette
Geraldine
Horace

ScrambledSmegs · 29/06/2012 11:33

Fleur. First bully I ever encountered.

And it rhymes with Bleurgh Grin

insanityscratching · 29/06/2012 11:34

Nathan and Reece for boys
Maddison and Teagan for girls

akaemmafrost · 29/06/2012 11:37

Duane
Shane
Wayne
Kane

Janine
Jeanette
Michelle

Boring, middle of the road, unattractive names.

IawnCont · 29/06/2012 11:37

Agree about the cuteness thing.
Lexie/Lexy
HATE posh boys' names- Otto, Arlo, Sholto, Hugo. People are calling their sons Ptolemy. I just don't get it.

Disclaimer- I love many of the names on this thread, and know many people hate my DCs name.

AWomanCalledHorse · 29/06/2012 11:37

The cutesty 'ie' names already mentioned.
White girls called Ebony. I don't get it.
I also have an irrational hatred of Hugo & Iago...no idea why but just seeing them written down makes annoyed.

CharltonHairstyle · 29/06/2012 11:38

Lexi is my least favorite girls name.

Kevin, I know of a baby Kevin! It's terrible, isn't it!?

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 29/06/2012 11:40

Lucy, Stanley, Heather, Alfie

I will not be surprised if both my DCs names end up on here!

akaemmafrost · 29/06/2012 11:42

Oh yes Lexie today. It seems that one is hated loads.

marge2 · 29/06/2012 11:42

Aieesha. Godawful. (Aieeeehshah, with a Boycie nasal twang)
I also hate Fiona. Actualy I think it's a nice name, but there were two awful Fiona's at my school and I can't get past that.

akaemmafrost · 29/06/2012 11:42

As well NOT today

akaemmafrost · 29/06/2012 11:43

MY name is on this thread Grin.

marshmallowpies · 29/06/2012 11:45

Samantha. Sarah. Claire. Joanne. The names that were most popular when I was growing up in the 80's now seem the most boring & pedestrian to me.

I've always disliked Hannah for some reason. No idea why.

Hate any boys names which are shortened in the Archie/Alfie style. Alfie might be short for Alfred, but are any of the Archies really called Archibald? I doubt it. I can just about cope with a Theo who is not short for Theodore but that's about it. James is a much nicer name than Jamie (and I prefer Jim as a nn anyway).

Oh and Buddy Bear, what Jamie Oliver called his son - worst name ever.

Jane on the other hand is a GREAT name.

CharltonHairstyle · 29/06/2012 11:45

Mine is on here too Hmm

hermionestranger · 29/06/2012 11:47

My nn is evidentially hated lots then. Oh well I'm the original and best.

I hate names like Teagan and cutesy girls hyphenated names that are spelt wrong for eg daysee-mai and elly-Mae etc.

CharltonHairstyle · 29/06/2012 11:49

Oh, my middle name is too!

The shame!

LiteraryMermaid · 29/06/2012 11:50

Brandon and Tyler (dislike the sound, and have never met a nice one) and anything cutesy or abbreviated - Alfie, Tommy, Tilly, Ellie etc. Agree with virtually everyone else about Lexie (although I do know a lovely one).

BenedictsCumberbitch · 29/06/2012 11:56

Kai, Kyle, kayden (bleurgh bleurgh bleurgh) in fact k names as a rule.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 29/06/2012 11:56

My name's on here too but I'm not fussed about that. DD's isn't yet though.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/06/2012 11:56

I love Sholto.

I think I have a weakness for pretentious posh-boys' names though. I also rather love:

Hugo
Benedict
Inigo
Cosmo
Corin
Lysander
Elias
Zander

Blush
ThisTimeNextYearRodney · 29/06/2012 11:59

Jayden/Hayden/Kayden etc can't stand them

Maddison

Of course, my DCs are named fantastic names that no one could possibly dislike Grin

theDudesmummy · 29/06/2012 12:02

I am relieved not to see my DS's name on here yet. I don't like Gary. Don't know why.
