Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

Archie for a boy
Maude for a girl

Hate old people's names.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 29/06/2012 16:51

This is probably outable but was listening to the radio as a child, and they were talking about the least popular/most hated boys names. #1 and #2 were both my cousins names!

One of them is Rodney.

The other one came up on here last week and everyone likes it Confused

My name is also on this thread - I don't mind, I'm not all that fussed about it either.

Geranium3 · 29/06/2012 17:02

WithACherryOnTop · 29/06/2012 17:07

Fred/Freddie/Frederick.

Frank. How anyone can look at a newborn and think 'I'll call him Frank/Frankie's is beyond me. It's about the ugliest, harshest name I can think of.

Archie and Alfie.

Bert/Albert/Bertie.It has a horrible sound.

Any variation of Finn.

Jude. This sets my teeth on edge.It sounds unpleasant to me.

Wayne

Stephen.Another ugly name imho.

Dylan.Every Dylan I've met has been a little horror. I'm sure there are nice ones out there though.

Cuthbert.Why? Why? Just why?

Barney and Barnaby.Awful, though for some reason Barnabas is beginning to grow on me.

Rupert

Harry

Stanley. Why is this so popular on MN?

Paul

Reily

Ernest

Fergus.

Gilbert

Hector

Leon
Leonard

Ned. Best reserved for carthorses.

Ted

Ralph.Unless pronounced as Rafe.

That's half of Mumsnet pissed off now.Blush

YodasMummy · 29/06/2012 17:16

Hmmm, I'd imagine everyone reading this will be offended in some way by someone or another, so here goes ...

I hate "mn names" as well and I'd include ottilie (or however you spell it) and clemency in that list.

And Alice. Hate, hate, hate Alice. But as many people have said, its all to do with the people you know.

perplexedpirate · 29/06/2012 17:21

DS's name is on here but everyone on RL says how much they love it.

Can't stand Noah. Awful sound, and all the boys I know that are called Noah are drips.

Also hate Kai, Kyle, Callum, Tyler, and Connor.

NeitherRhymeNorReason · 29/06/2012 17:24

Alice ... DH suggested it if we had a Dd. seriously ... Alice???? I'd rather her be called Mildred.....at least it has something about it.

Also - i have never met a Paul i liked

LimburgseVlaai · 29/06/2012 17:27

Patrick - not sure why, but have always loathed it.

Lucy - same.

Any first name that is really a surname - Madison, Mac[something]

Made-up chav names - Shayley, Kayleigh, Kai, Tanicia

usualsuspect · 29/06/2012 17:31

Nice thread Hmm

NoraHelmer · 29/06/2012 17:38

Amelie - sets my teeth on edge. Pretentious.

Jennifer - sounds prissy. Hated it since I was at school with a Jenny who was horrible.

Cecily - old lady's name

Olive28 · 29/06/2012 18:07

Me too with the "MN names". Many of them come across as pretentious and try-hard and they just don't really appeal. I haven't met anyone around here with a typical MN name.

PuppyMonkey · 29/06/2012 18:11

Come on, you've got a few more to go to mention every single name there is. What a pointless thread.

Cremolafoam · 29/06/2012 18:27

Courtney for a girl.
Jack for a boy.
Leeanne I just don't like I'm afraid

PrincessOfChina · 29/06/2012 18:32

Isobel, Isabel, Isobelle, Isabella, Izzy. Etc, etc.

I wince whenever yet another acquaintance uses it for their DD. It's so tired and boring.

Someone up-thread so why call your boy John and I feel the same about Isabel at the moment.

Showmethemhappyfeet · 29/06/2012 18:32

I hate mn names too. And old people names, Martha/Mabel/Stanley/ Fred/Florence etc
That said my DDs name comes up all the time in these types of conversations and I don't get insulted. Hope anyone who's DC I just named doesn't either.
World would be extremely boring and confusing if we were all only called 4 names!

lambbone · 29/06/2012 18:38

Hayley
Beverley
Gary

Just hideous

Cremolafoam · 29/06/2012 18:42

Oh AND Imogen really gets on my wick

SystemofaDowny · 29/06/2012 18:42

Now DS and DB's name are on here too. Maybe our family has the horrible name gene :)

tourdefrance like I said my dislike of Freya was irrational, particular as I deliberately chose a less popular name for DD as I hated being 1 of 3 girls in my class with the same name. Its just because she really really wants all that named crap stuff so we have to have the same conversation EVERY time we see any. I am just taking out my frustration on all the poor innocent little Freyas (that we never meet) because of it.

WithACherryOnTop everyone who meets my Dylan says he is a very nice. He just saves all of his horribleness for me at home. :o

Strawbezza · 29/06/2012 19:17

I hate a clutch of single-syllable names: Jade, Dean, Carl, Wayne. Also hate Lorraine because of the nasty girl at school called that.

Caerlaverock · 29/06/2012 19:18

Fanny

LadyWidmerpool · 29/06/2012 19:25

Florence.

Olive28 · 29/06/2012 19:30

Cat's names - Tabitha, Cat, Kitty

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 29/06/2012 19:44

lolz usual

I said exactly the same earlier.

It's fucking horrible.

marshmallowpies · 29/06/2012 21:15

I actually like the double barrelled first names as long as they are real names (ie not Lacie-Mae).

Love Mary-Jane but that has unfortunate connotations, and Mary-Kate I think is rather sweet, but ruined by being associated with Mary-Kate Olesen.

Always think double-barrelled boys names look so cool in French - Jean-Claude, Pierre-Francois etc...the possibilities are endless. Wish it worked as well with English boys names!

Mrschristiangray · 29/06/2012 21:28

I don't like ANY names beginning with a K (C is ok though Confused )

Also Sara(h)
Claire
Sophie
