Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

Katie and James both common and the names of utter ass clowns.

brightnearly · 17/06/2015 23:10

Humbert

Hilda

Nigel

Dave (pronounce: Daive)

brightnearly · 17/06/2015 23:14

Pierce and Biff qualify as well.

But Gaylord...! Poor child, but brilliant name. Something to live up (or down).

Likewise, Marmaduke and Peregrine!

scarletforya · 17/06/2015 23:17

ZOMBIE !!!!

scarletforya · 17/06/2015 23:20

Girls. Lily-Mae. I recall this mother saying it over and over again. Lily-Mae, this Lily-Mae. Lily-Mae That. Using the name at the start and end of every sentence. It was roasting hot day. I was on a very heavy period accumulation of which makes me a right bitch. I felt like screaming. "Alright you fucking soft twat. We get the point. You like the name Lily-Mae. Just the way she was pronouncing it L,ller Mae. Lily with out the first i being said. If that makes sense
For boys, Charlie. I'm tripping over them

Quasilulu · 18/06/2015 01:18

Sidney/Sydney. Actually makes me feel a bit queasy. Sorry if you've got one.

TorrAlexandra · 18/06/2015 15:32

My DH and DD1's names have both been mentioned once each - my own has come up twice as a 'good' name so I'm quite chuffed! DD2 and both DS's names yet to make an appearance...

One thing I don't like is when a name ends with an 'a' sound and the surname starts with a vowel, so everyone inserts an 'r' in between when saying the full name. e.g. Anna Evans becomes AnnaREvans. Luckily my surname starts with a consonant so I escaped that particular issue!

mrspremise · 18/06/2015 20:46

Dominic. Every Dominic I have ever known has been evil.

GotTheKey · 23/06/2015 20:00

Jayden, Kayden, Riley, Levi, chase.

Anything which is - Mae (eg Olivia- Mae), chenise, Shannon...

Greenteandchives · 23/06/2015 20:41

I don't like Amelia. To me it is a medical term. It means 'absence of limbs'.

Enkopkaffetak · 23/06/2015 23:52

Connor I just irrationally loathe it. Made worse by people often mistaking ds's name for Connor (he is Conrad) GRRRR oh and never met a Connor who was not rude and lacking manners.

Dislike Kim to as a boysname however that is due to childhood issues.

weeweeweeassoonasigethome · 24/06/2015 00:43

I don't like Dylan any more. Pronounced the correct Welsh way I love it - Dull-ann - but even in Wales nobody pronounces it correctly any more. It's always Dillon. I make a point of pronouncing it correctly just to let people know how it's meant to be pronounced.

I also don't like names starting with J. I knew a family once who named their 5 children with J names. Their surname started with Ch to make it worse.

mathanxiety · 24/06/2015 04:43

Fake Oirish names:

Also:
Riley/Ryleigh/Rylee

Probably a lot more.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 25/06/2015 15:37

I will judge parents if a child has a name spelt idiotically. Adding in random vowels or writing a name phonetically does not make the name original. It just makes a name seem stupid. Poor kids!

Names after fruit also make me irrationally angry. "Cherry" or "Clementine", etc. Why not just call your child "Pineapple" and be done with it?

Aside from that, there are names I like much more than others, but nothing that I actively hate. Probably.

FishCanFly · 25/06/2015 19:17

Simon. Every Simon i've met was an asshole

littlejohnnydory · 27/06/2015 22:57

I dislike David or Dave.

Dislike anything ending in -leigh for a girl.

Kaekae · 30/06/2015 00:23

I don't like the name Keith.

Kaekae · 30/06/2015 00:24

I don't like the name Keith....it reminds me of corned beef?!

MamaLazarou · 30/06/2015 08:23

Elle pronounced 'Ellie' and Jaime pronounced 'Jamie'. And anything with Americanised spelling, i.e, Madysyn, Kynadi, Kady, Britney.

drudgetrudy · 30/06/2015 14:06

Anything ending in "Bert"-Herbert, Albert etc .
Kayleigh, Kylie
The Granny names I think are a bit ugly like Gertie, Ethel, Mildred.

littlejohnnydory · 30/06/2015 21:29

Met a little boy called Grayson once. Absolutely loathe the name, could barely stand to hear him called that!

Fizzyplonk · 01/07/2015 19:38

Clare
Jayden
Keidon

Can't stand Louise. No idea why! And whilst I don't hate it, I can't understand why Sarah is so popular. I've always thought it a plain, boring name.
