Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

xigris, we chose to name our ds Quentin Smile.

I'm not quite sure what the purpose of this thread is, but I guess it shows that we all have different tastes. But isn't that what makes life interesting? Wouldn't it be dull if we all loved and chose the same few names....?

And to answer the op, there are lots of names I dislike but normally because of associations with specific people that I've met with those names.

burberryqueen · 07/05/2013 15:53

Kaiden/kayden/Cayden/Caiden
Kale (why? why would you name your child after a cabbage)
Kade/cade
kaleb/caleb
Callum/calum

MMollyMum2 · 07/05/2013 17:09

Juliette. Name of an absolutely horrible girl I knew at school, hated her so much but she loved us. Hmm And Milly. Just urgh. (I tend to associate names with the first person I know with them. Even a wonderful Juliette I would struggle to like.

PearlyWhites · 07/05/2013 17:19

Freya it reminds me of cheese

Floggingmolly · 07/05/2013 17:24

What the fuck is wrong with John, elephants? Should I assume you're of the Tyson, Rebel, etc. persuasion?

stillenacht · 07/05/2013 17:37

Alfie, Albie, Berti, Robert, Keith,Kevin,Wayne,Paul,

Biggest hate is Oliver or Ollie urgh

Girls: Milly,Tilly,Lotty, Isobel (any variation), anything with 'bel' or 'belle' in... any cutesy names

Worst:Imogen!!

Bibs123 · 08/05/2013 11:11

What a bitchy thread, presumably the people on here hating all of these well known names are the ones that rave about such names as Deliliah and Jasper? (I have seen real posts!!)

zingally · 09/05/2013 20:22

I teach reception/Year 1, so find out what was trendy 4/5/6 years ago... At the moment there's quite a few Alfie's coming through...

As for names I just don't like, I HATE the boys name Bradley. I've NEVER taught a Bradley that was anything other than completely obnoxious (with a family from hell to boot usually!)

For girls names, I have a dislike of double-barrelled first names. The worst was Alisha-Keira, who just merged into something like Allie-shakira. Yuck.

I'm also not fond of girls names that end with the "ee" sound, like Sophie, Carly, Emily. To me they are twee and whiney sounding. BUT I'm a Sally, and it doesn't bother me for my own name, although I tend to go by just Sal these days.

diavlo · 09/05/2013 23:50

Nathan, Alexander & Lauren...dull,dull,dull!!!!!!!

SucksToBeMe · 09/05/2013 23:57

Freya,Greta and Celeste

Noah, Joshua and Harry

Heleneahandcart1 · 10/05/2013 00:02

Oh no Diavlo, I have an Alexander and a Lauren, though I must admit I do find the name Lauren dull after 12 years! My mother hated it!

CheesyPoofs · 10/05/2013 00:29

I CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE HAS SAID.....GAYLORD

LittleMissLucy · 10/05/2013 01:18

Deirdra

Awful, awful name.

welshmum2113 · 10/05/2013 02:22

I've probably failed my DD by giving her a name that's made several appearances on this thread. Jaedan (pronounced Jayden) is the middle child of 3, with both her brothers having relatively traditional British names. She tends to call herself Jae for short.

LittleMissLucy · 10/05/2013 03:30

Welshmum I just read the USA top 20 list and Jayden is up there. Its very popular here.
Jae sounds good, like a modern Mae.

MyShoofly · 10/05/2013 05:42

Names you find most in America like LeShawn, DeShawn....anything + Shawn including just plain "Shawn" frankly.

Actually "De" + anything is hideous all around IMO....

rambososcar · 10/05/2013 07:30

My my, we do have some sensitive little flowers here, don't we?

Like it or not, I can't abide the names Oliver or Ollie. One of the several I've met really put me off the name, he is obnoxious. I also don't like the trend for Jack/Harry/George/Charlie/Alfie though I love other traditional names like James and Matthew. I'll pass on Tyler, Connor, Callum, Kyle, Emily, Connie, Shannon and Rebekah too.

Far worse than any of these except Oliver are nicknames. What's the point of giving a child a name if you're then immediately going to call her something different?

LittleMissLucy · 10/05/2013 14:53

MyShoofly I would be careful - those names you site are race specific in the USA

MMollyMum2 · 10/05/2013 17:28

I have an Oliver and am pregnant with an Alfie. HATE Juliette. Prissy girly girls stuck up snob.

Secondme · 10/05/2013 17:32

I am a Jane and I have a twin called Isobel!!!!
We have always hated Isabella and not just because everyone wrote her name like that. Always thought it was a prissy frilly name whereas Isobel was more...sturdy. Everyone we asked said they thought Isobel's are quite headstrong...which is exactly right!!!! Grin

thegreylady · 10/05/2013 18:29

I don't really hate many names though I dislike several-my pet hate is my own name Valerie closely followed by my parents' second choice which was Gloria!!

chlo13 · 17/06/2015 20:37

I think Jane is quite elegant honestly, but some names I don't like:
Melly, Nelly, Beatrice, Pearl, Patty, Gladys, etc. Although you could take any name you don't like, find out that someone very lovely and kind has it, and then change the way you think about that name. Smile

FlyDragonfly1 · 17/06/2015 20:54

I have quite an extensive list!
I really dislike very common names, names spelt differently from the norm, and names that aren't really names.
My least favourite names are probably Chloe and Thomas. I don't like the sound of the name Chloe and I don't like the way Thomas looks on paper - I do like Tom.
