Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

Mine, DP's and DD's names were mentioned in the first 4 posts!! AND those posters only listed one name each Shock

we'll live though. I don't think I HATE any names, it's more the way they're used - in an affected way or just shouted over and over (and bloody over) in the park. I just want to chip in 'just go and get bloody Gideon, he's clearly not listening to you.' I went right off Sid, a name I really fancied for impending DC2 (if it's a boy) that way.

heidipi · 04/05/2013 20:05

Oh old thread. Still, I might pick a name for DC2 from within the first 10 posts just so he/she doesn't feel left out.

That's a relief-no one hates DS's name, or mine. They don't like DMIL's name but that's ok as she didn't like it either...
DD has one of those common why-would-anyone-call-their-child-that names - she is named after my grandma, and was the only one in her school for years,as she is significantly older than most other owners of the name.
It's not often we manage to be trendsetters...Grin

Startail · 04/05/2013 21:26

Gaynor

chickydoo · 04/05/2013 21:57

Don't like Florence or even worse Catlin ( soooo many girls saddled with that one)
Boys names I'm not keen on are Sam, Tom & Tim ......yawn...

ClaraBean · 04/05/2013 22:15

Anna.
I love Anne, and Annie, but for some reason Anna really gets my heckles up.
Also dislike Alfie, Archie, Albie, Ellie etc

WeOnlyPlannedTheFirst · 04/05/2013 22:34

It seems like every other girl where I live is called something-mae or rae. Usually Lexi/Lexie-Rae.

I don't like names that immediately say "born in 2013" for example. Suspect I've accidentally given ds2 one but time will tell :(

I named my children with family names mostly. Dh and I both like Logan though after a literary character but it's far too popular for us to even consider as a first name so it's one of ds2's middle names.

I hate abbreviations instead of proper names but think using them as nn's is fine. I have lots of irrational dislikes re names and no sense to them just mostly bad connotations to people I've known. My dh shares his name with a boy I HATED at school - a bully and a troublemaker. It's also a 'common' name imo. He knows I don't like it!

MonkeyingAroundTown · 04/05/2013 22:34

Shakira, Britney, Kylie, Chelsea, .......all names which chavs think sound posh cause they're celeb names

dogsandcats · 04/05/2013 22:39

Paige. Dont know anyone with that name, but it grates. A part of a book, and spelt wrong!
Angel and Sky come 2nd and 3rd, for what I would have thought were obvious reasons.
[apologies to all posters that could offend]

dogsandcats · 04/05/2013 22:44

Hang on. Why has this thread been resurrected?

curmit · 04/05/2013 22:50

Jayden/cayden/jordan total cringe.

Sunnymeg · 05/05/2013 16:10

Jaxon/Jaxxon and Mervyn. I loathe the name Mervyn.

effyzm · 05/05/2013 17:14

I personally hate double barrelled names. Seriously could you not decide on one name? Just thought you'd be greedy and have two. Not only that but it's so popular and chavvy. Also made up spellings of names 'just to be different' well done you, your poor child has now got to spend its entire life correcting people. What thought comes in to people's minds when they completely screw over a name. Like Skye or Raine or even to the extremes of Chelsey. Also last names as first names, why?

Astley · 05/05/2013 19:53

Louis. I hate the sound of it when said Louee.

I actually quite like Lewis. Butto me Louis is such a wet sounding name.

Tickledyellow · 05/05/2013 19:55

This doesn't seem like a very nice post idea somehow...

xigris · 05/05/2013 20:02

Barbara, or worse, Babs. Don't like Hilary much either. And who on earth ever thought to name a little baby Quentin? Actually, the segues nicely into the name Fanny. Never a good choice (apologies to all Babs, Hilarys. Quentins and Fannys) Grin

Noseynoonoo · 05/05/2013 20:04

Tyler - it's a surname or an occupation, not a Christian name.

Badvoc · 05/05/2013 20:06

Charlotte or Amanda
Richard or Carl

CrayolaLola · 05/05/2013 20:07

Digby

It is a dogs name...FFS!

carameldecaflatte · 05/05/2013 20:09

Jayden, Brayden, Hayden, Kayden, Frayden, Prayden, Mayden. Ok I made the last 3 up.

miffybun73 · 05/05/2013 20:13

If I had to pick one then Louis.

FairyArmadillo · 05/05/2013 20:24

Have an irrational hatred for the name Neveah. I don't hate the names Elle/Ellie/Ella/Elliana but when I hear another newborn announcement with that name I think- "Oh, not another one."

Mellymog · 05/05/2013 20:57

glad it's not just me that hates Jayden, Hayden etc etc

youbethemummylion · 05/05/2013 21:26

Joshua, I don't know why but I don't even like to say it aloud - just seems a bit wishy washy.
