Crocheters what are you making? Im currently making a bobble hat for my 2 year old, might do a little matching shawl/scarf after.
I normally make amigurumi.

I can’t crochet but I’ve bought a hook and some wool and a YouTube tutorial 😁

Your beautiful hat is inspiring me OP!

Good luck, just a tip from someone who learned via YT at the start of Covid - it takes a good few evenings of practice to get used to holding the yarn and using the hook so don't get frustrated after the first half an hour. It will just click into place once you get the muscle memory 😄.

NitchenNinja · 27/09/2026 12:50

Thank you for that good advice @CherryKerry - I’m only just about comfortable with knitting needles after a year, and was hoping crocheting might be a bit easier!

Can I ask what tutorials you used on YouTube?

I would always recommend Bella Coco, she has loads of tutorials including total day1 beginners as well as lots of project ideas.

She does both left handed and right handed versions of all her videos so make sure you don't pick the wrong one!

Once figured out crochet is definitely faster and I find it easier to just whip something up than knitting. It was however frustrating to figure out and there were moments when I nearly threw the hook and wool out the window. Once your hands know what to do though it all clicks into place

Its finished- ish im going to make some buttons from resin to give it a bit of decoration but not too bad for my first hat 😂

I was going to link another recent crochet thread, but I think you are the same OP. 😄

I've been making basic rugs for years which I donate to the local hospice. This year I started a scarf which is nearly done. I'm looking for my next project, ideally something wearable, so looking for inspiration.

Plumcorkyduff · 27/09/2026 14:23

@Avie29 that is gorgeous! I love it. I always like a multi coloured yarn as it saves having to change to a different one to change to colour.
@CherryKerry @NitchenNinja I second watching Bella Coco. I learnt from her tutorials and making basic granny squares.

I am plodding on. Joseph’s body finished and his headdress. Arms and beard need to be attached but have lost the darning needle down the sofa 😬. I think it’s joined the 25 stitch markers I’ve also lost.

Have started Baby Jesus. As he resembles a peanut am hoping he’ll be quick 😁

This thread is great. I’m loving seeing what you’ve all made 😊

agree, its very fiddly to start with but once you find a comfortable way to hold your hook/ yarn your hands just sort of crack on, takes alot of concentration to start with, now i hit my stitch marker and im like huh where did the last round go? 😂

What absolutely gorgeous makes!

I made a short waistcoat from variegated sock yarn this summer. Needs blocking, but before I can do that I must complete the dreaded sewing-in of ends. I need to grit my teeth and get a move on so that I can wear it this autumn.

The photo does not do justice to how zinggy the colours are.

Glad to find a crochet thread!
I am in awe of anyone who can made small fiddly cuddly things. I like bigger things that I don't have to do much counting for 😂 I have just started a raglan jumper for my son after finishing a hexi cardi. These slippers (first attempt at making some) were yesterday's project

@theresnoonequitelikegrandma 😂 loving the pig in blanket!. I may have to steal that idea.
@PaperPanama, looks lovely! I hate the sewing part too, i used to love sewing when i was younger though.
@imaginaryisi they are so cute, i don’t generally make wearables but might have to to make some for my DD.
I have made a mini pumpkin, but now im bored of making mini pumpkins, sorry trick or treaters! 😂

Oh that is so cute, i may have to buy this book, im sure my nan would love a nativity set too.
🤦🏻‍♀️ i have just started a new round and realised that where i was supposed to do 3dctog i have done 3 dc 😭 i refuse to restart the round 😂, im sure it won’t be noticed.
@NitchenNinja i learnt to crochet using YouTube, i bought a little kids crochet kit and couldn’t figure out how to read the pattern so watched some YouTube videos lol.
@PeanutCat1 what subscription is that? I find it hard to decide what i want to start making sometimes so a box that says “here make this” every now and then would be great.
@MakingTheEndsMeet wow thats alot of projects on the go at once, they are lovely though, i love crochet blankets for babies, i made my daughter one when i was pregnant but no way near as good as those lol.

Oh thanks @Avie29! I made them one after the other, not all at one go! It was a steady progression of pregnancy announcements, absolutely perfect for stash busting. I’ve made a decent dent in my stash, it’s been very satisfying. I might make a few random blanket & hat sets and just list them on Etsy, unless we get a new batch of pregnancies, I work in a big Radiology department, it’s a very female-based staff group, so it’s always possible!

I do have a short attention span, big projects are a real struggle to finish, so a pram blanket and hat is perfect, takes a week or two and it’s done and I can move on to the next one!

SemmaLina · 28/09/2026 08:51

I’m making the hearts blanket , my first time using cotton yarn , I’m usually a Stylecraft DK user . Finding the yarn splits a bit so it’s slow going
I love the way the pattern works up though

I get bored halfway through projects and want to make something else lol i made a little book doll house with little doll and clothes and accessories, but it took me sooo long to make because i would get bored and make something else for a while.
I made my DD a bunny teddy when i was pregnant and then my sister was pregnant so i made her one too and then friend was pregnant and she wanted one aswell 😂 so they all have matching bunnies now- except DD bunny is pink and they had boys so done theirs cream with little blue tails.

I’m very much the same. I have my next project idea planned by the time I’m half way through the one I’m working on, it definitely helps motivate me to finish things.

This weekend I started a sofa blanket as a birthday present for a friend, again, a stash buster, using all the stuff I’ve picked up from Aldi etc over the last few years. This is Aran weight yarn on a 6.5mm hook so these squares are working up really quickly, I’m probably half way done already!

It’s not been too bad. I just have the Christmas tree and a few mice and stars to make now. The rest is done. I’ve had the pattern and wool since 2021! I have been off work sick for a few weeks so decided to try and get it done before Christmas this year!
