That's a lovely idea, could you do an auction for them?

You may already be aware but a lot of designers or companies have usage limitations when it comes to selling things made from other people's designs, even for charity. I'd just check with them beforehand that you're allowed to do this, send them a message so you have it in writing.

Auction would be a good idea but im not sure where/how to auction them.
I didn’t think of that, all it says in the book is that the pictures and text is not allowed to be copied and resold 🤔.

I am not a lawyer but ……

Actually the copyright thing is somewhat a myth here in the Uk . Copyright law explicitly says that you can sell items you make from a bought pattern. It’s only the written pattern that is protected .?

Patents and licences are a different matter though. If someone takes out a patent this does restrict what you can sell eg Disney, Peppa Pig or similar ones ones . You can also restrict by putting a licence on the pattern or in the book but to be enforceable that has to be made clear prior to purchase ( eg written in the book) as any rights are contractual rather than from any legislation. Online selling does make some enforceability tricky though if the licence terms are not made clear beforehand.

So if there is nothing in the book you are fine .

Thanks i did have a read online and it says anything you make by hand following a pattern is owned by you so can sell it on.
I wouldn’t be sharing the pattern so there is no problems there.

I have done the base dolls for Mary, Joseph and one of the Kings so far, just started the shepherd, thank you for recommending the book @Plumcorkyduff i am really enjoying making them.

@Avie29 Oh well done! They look brilliant! I’ve had a really busy time so am still at Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus. Oh, and Joseph’s arms are not yet attached to his body and I need to attach their headdresses. 😁. I dithered about whether to use safety eyes and didn’t in the end which I’m regretting slightly. Just started the Angel Gabriel’s head tonight and finally finished the easy baby blanket. Really need a better light in my room. Or get a head torch 😋

I bought one of those magnifying glasses with head torch for miniature crochet when I attempted crocheting with sewing thread 😥 😂 it worked pretty good, i went with safety eye because it meant less sewing 😂 .

If you're making a blanket/throw, you could always do a giant granny square to avoid the stitching together 😉

@imaginaryisi @Trotula
I am the giant granny square (Afghan) queen as I massively cannot be arsed sewing things together. (Hence the reason Joseph’s arms are not yet attached to his body 😬).

Ooh really! @Avie29 . Which one? My living room does not possess a ‘big light’. Discovered this the day we moved in and it got dark. It’s like crocheting in 1887.

Avie29 · 07/10/2026 18:43

@Plumcorkyduff unfortunately i can’t remember where i got them, probably Amazon 🤔.

@Avie29 wow - they look hardcore. I shall leave my curtains open at night with my not big light on and let the neighbours speculate I am a master forger/international spy.

Current WIP is a raglan jumper for my 10 year old. He'll probably be so fed up of me asking him to try it on for size by the time it's finished that he'll be bored of wearing it 😂

I done a different pattern than the book for the sheep, the camel has wooden skewers in its legs to make it stand lol.

@Avie29 omg you are putting me to shame! I’ve done a King (well his head, body and stole thingy. And one arm. I fecking hate doing the arms. Pondering on whether I can get away with saying the rest of them had their arms tucked in their robes🤔). And whether anyone will notice a one-armed King. Also realised I’ve done Mary with a bigger hook. So she’s got a touch of bloating. Especially her head. 😬. I did however buy some more yarn today for the camel and donkey. Love the fact you’ve gone off piste with the camel.Grin.

Plumcorkyduff · 09/10/2026 18:52

Ps has anyone got an easy but interesting newborn baby hat link?

Plumcorkyduff · 09/10/2026 18:54

@Avie29 sorry, I mean the sheep. It’s Friday and the wine is flowing!

Avie29 · 09/10/2026 19:30

@Plumcorkyduff the arms were tedious, so was sewing the legs and ears on the animals, i hate the sewing part too lol.
i have one more king to make but waiting for some yarn to arrive and i am finished with the people, i am managing 1-2 figures a day so i have updates for my justgiving page lol, my crochet for November charity hit over its target now, i am dreading sewing on all the little headdresses and bits n bobs lol.

@Avie29 one to two figures a day is epic. You’ll be finished in no time. Meanwhile I shall be surrounded by unattached arms and be giving a zombie apocalypse vibe rather than the birth of our Lord. You are inspiring me though! Will try and crack out a shepherd tomorrow😉. Hate sewing it all together. And arms. Not sure if I’ve mentioned that.

MakingTheEndsMeet · 09/10/2026 19:53

I’ve had to pause the blanket joining to make a couple of last minute requests. A birthday present for my daughter’s friend, an ‘amusable’ coffee cup!

(still working on the chicken another friend has asked for, picture to follow!)

😂 😂 unattached arms and cute little animals with no legs, i have to make a cow, my friend is insisting there is a cow in the nativity (which i agree but theres no cow in the book) but she has said she will donate extra £20 if i make a cow too lol 😂.

OP posts:
Marmaladelover · 10/10/2026 21:15

@Avie29 your friend is right “ the cattle were lowing” - they were in the stable already and had to budge up ……

Avie29 · 11/10/2026 11:34

@Marmaladelover yes i agree, but theres is now cow pattern in the book lol i have made one though 😊.

Im pretty sure there were 3 shepherds too but after already making 7 little dolls i don’t think it needs another 2 lol.
