Crocheters what are you making? Im currently making a bobble hat for my 2 year old, might do a little matching shawl/scarf after.
I normally make amigurumi.

I made a lap rug for myself a couple of years ago which DH kept pinching so I’m making another one for him this year.

-I'm thinking of making my 1st pair of socks. Something to wear in the house in winter more than ones I'll wear in shoes. Does anyone have any easy-ish patterns/youtube links?
-Previous projects have just used acrylic, but now that I'm making things for me to wear, I'd like some nicer, soft wool or woollen blends. Where does everyone buy their wool from?

Do you mean like slipper socks, not to wear in shoes? I’ve used this to make cosy slipper socks;

I often get natural fibres from here, or eBay;

I’ve just finished a blanket so am doing some Christmas items - my first attempt at a coaster (and yes my stitch count is out 🙈)

Lidl had sock wool this last week with lots of real wool in it. I use the book „Crochet socks that rock“ that my daughter bought me for Christmas. The patterns are well written and easy to follow

I call them bedsocks, but maybe the correct term are slipper socks? Socks which are thicker that those you'd wear within shoes and used to keep your feet cosy in the house, without actual slippers on. Thanks for the link too.

Yes, that’s the kind of thing, that YouTube tutorial is what I’ve used in the past. The chunkier the yarn, the thicker and more slipper-like the end result.

Can I join please?
fairly new to crochet, I’ve made a few granny squares baby pram blankets for my granddaughters and progressed to making cotton dishcloths. I’m on the 4th which is much better than the first!

I managed to get some double knitting wool from a car boot sale and Lidl as I want to make a blanket/throw as a practice run.
Ive recently found a “join as you go” technique for joining granny squares, which might suit me as I really struggle with stitching.
Is it a good way to join squares?
Love all the ideas, hopefully one day I can progress to those lovely projects!

Hey, lots of lovely blankets on this thread, im sure someone will have some ideas for joining granny squares 👍🏻 (ive never made one 🤔).
I am with you there, the worst part about crocheting is the sewing everything together! Haha.

If you're making a blanket/throw, you could always do a giant granny square to avoid the stitching together 😉

@MakingTheEndsMeet love the different patterns for your blanket squares - beautiful. Can I ask where you got the patterns from? ie if it's on youtube - I might have a go at a couple.

As for a joining colour - what about a pale grey?

Or possibly a mid-brown colour?

Marmaladelover · 06/10/2026 11:48

NorthEastNancy · 03/10/2026 18:16

I saw that too! Not keen on all the colour changes but I was tempted!

Is there a picture anywhere then ? I was searching for one but can’t find it .

I am also very tempted to do it but in different yarn probably Malabrigo rios or arroyo . I made the blossom one a couple of years ago ( with a few adjustments to make it rectangular. )

Now that the weather is a bit cooler I have 2 crogeted blankets that live on the end of our bed that I chop and change depending on the duvet cover . That Sidar blossoms one ( that I made using Malabrigo yarn) and a temperature blanket I made in 2922. I neatly made another temperature blanket this year - I wanted to do a maximum and minimum swirl one this time but didn’t. So disappointed with myself given the year we have had and his that would have looked as a temp blanket!

ah well there is always next year ……

Thank you! All the squares are on YouTube, I can’t follow a written pattern but a video tutorial is perfect for me.

This is the sun/moon, I only did one row of the ‘rays’ as the second would’ve made the finished size too big.

This is the flower:

I used the spiral section from this one and just did more rows to make the spiral bigger;

this is the basic ‘granny’ hexagon;

And finally used this to make them into squares;

Thank you @Avie29 and @imaginaryisi!
I’ve already started small squares and found a YouTube video on crocheting them together just wondered if anyone had any tips or experience of doing it this way.

SunnyRandal · 06/10/2026 16:26

@Trotula I haven't crocheted granny squares together but I have Mile a Minute strips. I made a huge blanket in mile a minute which involves long thin strips which are joined. I did all the joins by crocheting together and it worked well.
One thing about crochet is that you don't have to follow rules, you can just make it up and see if it looks ok.

5289843DM · 06/10/2026 17:07

@Trotula Welcome to this thread. I've been crocheting granny square blankets for years which I donate to the local hospice. I don't have a pattern, but it must be the most basic pattern there is which I can churn out quickly whilst watching TV! 3 double crochets for almost the entire thing! I don't have a completed blanket to show, but I border each square with black- just for ease of having the same colour. I'll 'try' to explain my process of joining my squares as I go.

I finish all my squares firstly
I lay them out on a table into the pattern I want
The very top, left square I will add a row of black all around it, so on all 4 sides of the square using the exact same pattern as the rest of the square (in my case)
Squares along the top and left edges get 3 rows of black of each square and all other squares just get black on 2 sides
I then work from the top left corner downwards in strips. I match a side that has the black surround with the edge of the next square which doesn't have the black.
As I crochet the black onto the bare square, I include the black of the next square. Each square eventually has a double row of the black edge.

I'm not sure if that makes much sense. I've made a sunflower pattern rug for a christening, children's floral hair clips and recently started making things for ME for once! I'm still very much a beginner though, so happy to have found this thread.

Just finished this baby blanket, I started it in May and baby arrived a couple of weeks ago.

Beautiful - well done!

Trotula · 06/10/2026 20:03

Thank you so much for explaining your joining technique @5289843DM.
Im currently trying a technique I saw on YouTube which sounds similar (but different!)
I edged my first completed square with grey and finished off.
2nd square - using grey I crocheted side 1 up to the middle of the corner and then hooked the yarn through the middle of a corner on the first square and pulled yarn through and completed the 3 triples of that corner. Then continued on that row going into the adjacent gap on square 1, hooking yarn through then complete the triple on square 2 continuing until I reached the corner, then turn to complete the other 3 sides as normal.
Square 1 and 2 are now attached together and then I moved on to join other squares.
I have found it a little challenging when joining the fourth square as it seemed a bit gapey in the corner.
I like this method because I can make some squares and then spend time joining them in.
I’m really enjoying crocheting and find it very soothing and rewarding but I’m really not fond of the joining!

Thank you for showing all your projects it’s very inspiring and makes me want to rush out and buy more wool!
