Welcome welcome!

I've not made anything for ages after I screwed up the same thing twice. I'm gonna have another blimmin crack at it though! I've reconnected with another hobby and work is seriously getting in the way of everything I want to do, darn it.

Thanks for starting the thread. Will hope to be doing some sewing tomorrow but it will be "things" rather than clothes

123ZYX · 19/05/2024 20:37

Thank you for the new thread. I've been making some Waves and Wild board shorts for DS (again!) this weekend. One of my favourite patterns

Daffyyellow · 19/05/2024 21:31

Thanks for the tag. Been having a tough time recently and sew-Jo seems to go AWOL during those times. 🤞🏻things looking up and sew-Jo is stirring. I might get my gingham double gauze RP OLivia top restarted soon.

DuchessNope · 19/05/2024 21:36

Hello! This popped up in active can I join?

I hadn’t made anything for ages but spent this weekend making a dress. Not quite finished but pretty much. It’s simplicity S8910 and it’s turning out quite well except the sleeves were too narrow (😣) so I had to add a triangle of extra fabric so I could move!

bookbook · 19/05/2024 22:25

Thanks for the new thread NutellaEllaElla .
I have a pile of to -do stuff that hasn't been done this week , as I have just been too busy . Hoping this week to crack on , as I have a couple of bits to make for my nieces new baby , who has a bar across his feet, so making changing nappies tricky . Thought to do a couple of Waves and Wild shortie over it alls with crotch poppers . - I have loads of material from when DGS was little . Then I have a bucket sunhat to make for DGS - he needs a plain navy one for school ( why do they only offer caps for boys? ) . I may even get around to making clothes for me sometime .. ( in my dreams ! )

Jins · 20/05/2024 08:13

Thanks for the new thread. I’m tailor tacking my place ready to start sewing again

123ZYX · 20/05/2024 09:16

Hi @DuchessNope new joiners are always welcome. Are you an experienced sewer? I'm impressed you've re-started your sewing with a simplicity pattern? I find that they have a level of assumed knowledge that means I'm constantly looking things up when using them, whereas the independent patterns tend to walk you things a bit more.

123ZYX · 20/05/2024 09:18

Just a reminder - Sewing Bee starts tomorrow not Wednesday, as I had assumed. I'm sure it's been on Wednesdays in the past

Allthegoodnamestakken · 20/05/2024 09:45

Thanks for the thread! I am powering along with my quilt now I figured out my bobbin issue. Its like a whole different machine, so smooth and so quick!
Once finished I have a Rosaryapparel dress to attempt and I want to reattempt my top I messed up. The dress has some complicated bits like pockets and Zips but it came with a step by step video so hopefully I learn something and bonus if its wearable.

DuchessNope · 20/05/2024 09:47

Hi @123ZYX I’d say I’m reasonably experienced but had about a year of not doing anything much other than a few repairs and adjustments.

I do normally use indie patterns and there is a definite step up in terms of the knowledge they assume. I found this one quite challenging especially the neckline which is done with binding! I also love the way indie patterns suggest when to finish off seams and things.

Brefugee · 20/05/2024 09:50

i found some trousers i bought 2 years ago that need shortening, they're ribbed stretchy, so i need to do the rolled hem thing on my overlocker. Luckily i have black thread already in it so i might do that today. I also need to elasticate the waist of a slightly too-big summer skirt, and my summer equivalent of sweat-pants (harem pants) also need re-elasticating in the waist. So i will try to do those things before doing any other sewing.

kittykarate · 20/05/2024 10:06

I have a few 'repairs' queued up - shorten a couple of pairs of jeans now they've been washed a few times, re-make the neckline on a dress my mam has handed over as the collar was shirred and permanently felt like it was trying to strangle her.

I have the Love Notions Tinley shorts pattern printed and cut out, so that's next on my list.

Jins · 20/05/2024 12:11

I’m planning a few alterations before I go any further with new projects. I need to re-elasticate my Barrett bikini top. Not as secure as I’d like when wet. I also need to look at the waistband of the high waisted bikini bottoms as they flip over when I bend and it’s not a good look. If I can be bothered I’ll take the leg lining out of the swimming shorts as well as they get a bit heavy. Other than that my swimwear worked well and I can highly recommend scuba for sea swimming - I barely noticed the cold.

Corfu was amazing. I’ve not been before but it’s somewhere I’d definitely return to

Rosenspants · 20/05/2024 15:49

Sounds fab @Jins ! Marking my place and thanks to @NutellaEllaElla for the new thread. I have been working on the bodice of the Sewoverit Jemima (dress version) and was powering along happily but got stuck with the all in one facing at the bagging out stage (is that what you call it?) of the shoulders and straps. It’s the one place where the instructions seem to hard to fathom out for a relatively new sewist, the various videos didn’t help for some reason. Anyway wonderful friend who is a professional dressmaker came to the rescue. She agreed that the instructions and diagrams were confusing which made me feel a bit better. In fact what I’d done was correct but had caught the dress in under the facing so it emerged all lumpy and wrong. We repinned and tacked it and I’ve sewn one side which isn’t perfect but will be ok after a good press. Have to rewind the bobbin now before I do the other side.

PrincessofWells · 20/05/2024 15:56

Can I join in? I've just upgraded my machine which is a huge learning curve. I've done a blind for our boat and a curtain and cushion so am getting used to it slowly.

Brefugee · 20/05/2024 17:02

i didn't do any of my repairs but i made 2 fabric baskets to line some IKEA woven grass baskets in my bathroom. They are way less ugly now 😁

Isabelle70 · 20/05/2024 19:47

I need to get on and make holiday kaftan.
I was also looking at fabric today to make a pool bag. I don't want to spend silly money on buying one and I need one that packs up flat. First holiday with a small case...

NutellaEllaElla · 20/05/2024 20:58

@PrincessofWells & @DuchessNope
Welcome! Pics of new makes much appreciated Smile

Hi all, I was on the other thread under a different name. Sewing has completely stopped at the moment as I am full on decorating mode but once the room is finished, I will have space to resume sewing!

Frumpyunicorn · 21/05/2024 09:32

Hi everyone thanks for the thread @NutellaEllaElla

I have just got to finish a new look dress for my daughter before we go away Saturday. I did want to make myself another remy too but it's not going to happen. @DuchessNope I prefer indies too, but I have to say that I am finding the new look patterns easier to follow now that I have been sewing a bit longer which is reassuring as it shows I am improving!

PickAChew · 21/05/2024 18:01

Checking in. Just finished the Merchant & Mills Ottoline jacket I bought the fabric for several years ago and now looking forward to Sewing Bee, this evening.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/05/2024 19:28

Thanks @NutellaEllaElla

I've started another very simple patchwork quilt.

I've also ordered three different fabrics in the Guthrie and Ghani sale - two are destined to be Indigo dresses (I'm truly obsessed) and the third may become trousers or a kaftan.

Hiddendoor · 21/05/2024 19:39

Hi! I've only just found this thread.

I've got a simplicity top cut out and ready to pin together but can't find the time to get on the sewing machine. I'm much better at buying fabric than sewing fabric at the moment.

DuchessNope · 21/05/2024 20:44

I’m always better at buying it! I bought a load of tana lawn in the liberty sale now feeling quite guilty
