Welcome welcome!

I've not made anything for ages after I screwed up the same thing twice. I'm gonna have another blimmin crack at it though! I've reconnected with another hobby and work is seriously getting in the way of everything I want to do, darn it.

Hi all, can I join your thread? It might give me the kick I need to finish some UFOs.

Recent makes - the Haralson Bag by Noodlehead with internal modifications to carry passports. I was really pleased to find gorgeous bronze coloured hardware to match the Ruby Star Society speckled fabric I wanted to use up. And a small quilt/play mat for my new Great Nephew - will be gifted on Saturday.

Next I need to start and finish a boiled wool shacket to go with a lovely maxi dress I made a few weeks ago - no photos yet but I was really pleased with the fit and have fabric ready to make another.

love both the bag and the play mat!

twobluechickens · 30/05/2024 10:56

@GnomeDePlume thank you! Great intel. Hadn’t thought of loomstate so will look for that too. This is where I’d really like to feel fabrics before buying, as the weights are so different.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 30/05/2024 11:32

@SewingBees That bag is lovely, I am waiting on some rubystar speckled fabric for a quilt so nice to see a picture of it in person rather than a computer graphic! its lovely!

PickAChew · 30/05/2024 13:40

Lovely hat, @bookbook - is it waterproof? 😆

Very nice bag @SewingBees

ShoAndSew · 30/05/2024 14:19

Coming back to this thread because I've just taken a few photos of my sewing room, and wondered if anyone would be interested? and maybe sharing photos of theirs? i have NC for this because outing, but it is also my IG name for all my sewing projects (in case anyone is interested)

Nothing like a bit of self promotion!

kittykarate · 30/05/2024 14:34

Always interested in sewing room envy - my sewing is done on my multi purpose table (desk by day, cutting table by night) so I have to faff around and pack away constantly.

I don't know how they're made but Ruby Star cottons have a lovely soft feel to them, even though they're quilting weight. I love them though some of their prints are a bit 'out there' for my taste.

PickAChew · 30/05/2024 15:48

I'm always up for a bit of sewing room envy. I have to use the dining table!

ShoAndSew · 30/05/2024 16:48

not sure how many i can upload

@twobluechickens if you go down the route of dying fabric yourself one thing I found was that I didn't use enough dye to get an even result. I was happy with the result as I wanted a weathered look.

twobluechickens · 30/05/2024 17:12

Yes I like the weathered look too (am fairly weathered looking myself!). I have downloaded the freebie Paola pattern and we’ll see how that goes first.

GnomeDePlume · 30/05/2024 17:15

@ShoAndSew that is a lovely sewing room!

Mine is definitely functional rather than attractive. It doubles as a guest room so I have to keep on top of my natural inclination towards mess.

NutellaEllaElla · 30/05/2024 17:20

A beautiful sewing room! Mine is our dining table. It suits me though, you can't shut me away in a room! It is a bit of a pain though and I wouldn't rule it out in the future.

@twobluechickens I like that pattern. It will really suit a heavy fabric. It has a real practical look to it, a proper chore coat.

thanks - since the DCs have moved out i have room to spread out. And if i ever get another cat, i'll be able to leave my stuff out and not worry about little catty footprints on the fabric, etc

twobluechickens · 30/05/2024 17:33

Fingers crossed I find something appropriate. I will share it on here when it’s finished but I feel like it’s poor form to copy a small business’s makes and then post it on Instagram! They are in the US and ship to the UK but I couldn’t afford their lovely jackets anyway ($450!), hence a copy. I’d feel less bad about copying a big international company’s garments.

twobluechickens · 30/05/2024 17:35

I also have sewing room envy! What a great space. My dining room is my sewing area but I am getting a loft conversion done at some point, and that will be my sewing space as well as a spare bedroom.

OperationalSupport · 30/05/2024 18:01

@ShoAndSew lovely sewing room (& I’ve followed you on insta for ages).
I’m lucky enough to have a room for sewing, but it is the box room which doesn’t do well with my natural tendency to create in chaos. I sorted my shelves out but now there’s a giant pile of pattern pieces and fabric on the floor I need to clear up before I do any more sewing.

I think today is my first day wearing me-made in May 😂

CrimsonAlligator · 30/05/2024 18:13

That’s very nice indeed @ShoAndSew.

DH has suggested I should have a sewing room, but I keep telling him that’s not really necessary for the 1 to 2 projects I manage to finish each year 😂

I’ve temporarily abandoned my toile for the Everyday Slacks. They fitted really well, but the weather isn’t exactly inspiring me to sew up a proper pair of summer trousers. May be I should go straight to autumnal sewing?

SewingBees · 30/05/2024 18:19

@ShoAndSew Love the bunting!

My sewing room doubles as my home office. I have been known to do some seam ripping during boring meetings!

I'm 2 stone into a planned 3.5 stone weight loss. I've got 3 gorgeous dress lengths that I can't bear to cut because I know they will only fit me for 1 summer so tomorrow I'm going to start taking in last summers clothes to see me through to autumn. I've just bought a bundle of warmer fabric to make stuff for later in the year, it's all stretch though and I'm not hugely confident with stretch fabric, was very cheap though so I can afford to practice on one bit

that is part of the reason i am pretty much not sewing clothes at all. I simply cannot accept my weight gain 😔

InMySpareTime · 30/05/2024 18:32

My sewing room is also home to puppets, books and the guest bed. While it has everything I need it is more "organised chaos" than "oasis of calm".
I know where everything is, nobody else would stand a chance.

oh thank you - i hope i follow you back.

@CrimsonAlligator i do sew a lot more now i have the machines set up and ready to go at any time, and i do my repairs more quickly (i iron in there too, and put the things that need repairing on the table and try never to leave the room without at least starting one thing

@SewingBees the bunting started as a scrap buster then just took over - i have huge piles of it with nowhere to put it. I may try to find a craft fair to sell that and other scrap-busting things i make. It started out as combined office / sewing room, but 2nd DC moved out and i colonised that one as my office. Poor ol' DH just has the living room.
