Stitch and bitch thread #9. I have pressing concerns

Welcome welcome!

I've not made anything for ages after I screwed up the same thing twice. I'm gonna have another blimmin crack at it though! I've reconnected with another hobby and work is seriously getting in the way of everything I want to do, darn it.

@NutellaEllaElla this stuff is great for quilting, I find it much easier to use than long pins or safety pins.

I agree, the adhesive cotton batting is really good too!

twobluechickens · 24/05/2024 20:03

Vikisews has lots of blazer patterns, all different lengths. I’ve never made one but I quite fancy giving it a try.

Spaceman101 · 24/05/2024 20:26

Hello, I've just stumbled across this can I join in I like a good sew. Manly clothing for the children but sometimes me too. I'd love to see all your projects for inspiration. I've just finished this for my daughter. Not caught up with sewing bee yet hopefully can do that over the weekend.

Thanks for the blazer suggestions @DuchessNope @PickAChew @twobluechickens
I like the look of the Heather 👍🏻

OperationalSupport · 24/05/2024 21:23

@Spaceman101 that’s beautiful! What’s the pattern?
I'm currently cutting and sticking a PDF (the Maison Fauve Tilda blouse)

PickAChew · 24/05/2024 22:24

That is adorable, @Spaceman101

twobluechickens · 24/05/2024 23:33

Meryl trousers cut out and started sewing up this evening. Coming together nicely; should hopefully have it all finished by the end of tomorrow.

NutellaEllaElla · 25/05/2024 07:42

Welcome @Spaceman101 and I love that dress! I often think that kids get the best, most fun clothing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/05/2024 08:41

@Spaceman101 Love it.

Jins · 25/05/2024 09:31

That’s fab @Spaceman101. I’d have loved a dress like that when I was a child.

I’ve followed my usual pattern and as soon as my thoughts turn to stash busting I end up doing a big order at PAM. I can’t even begin to defend it this time. The plan (and I use that term loosely) is to replicate a very simple top that I bought in asda years ago and liked so much that I bought loads in the sale. They are all getting too tatty to be seen in nowadays and need to go. Hopefully at least two of the purchases will work for it.

Brefugee · 25/05/2024 09:58

that's lovely @Spaceman101 i had such fun making clothes for my DDs when they were small. and once i found a good pattern i made it in many many variations. I don't have many pictures, unfortunately.

DiggoryVenn · 25/05/2024 10:34

@NutellaEllaElla I can't remember if I posted this before, but I made a pouch for my camera lens many years ago. I was a regular blogger back then so checked my post and I note that I also found it fiddly, especially attaching the sides to the circle. I seem to remember allowing extra padded space at the top but leaving the drawstring bit unpadded.

I still use the pouch today.

I’ve done the bulk of my jumpsuit and, astonishingly, it fits! Really chuffed, still got the hems, buttonholes and buttons to do, but that can wait until tomorrow. I’m glad I did the larger size as it would have been too neat in the smaller size. Could possibly size down in the top but it’s nice and roomy.

NutellaEllaElla · 25/05/2024 23:10

Nice one @twobluechickens! Well done, fit is so important and hard to get right, especially with a jumpsuit. Would love to see a pic.

@DiggoryVenn , that looks great. Yes I have ballsed up 2 toiles (they weren't intended to be toiles mind) before (embarrassingly. I can make dresses and stuff but this piddly little bag is getting to me!). I don't know if you suggested s this tutorial to me before but it looks like it fits the bill. The only thing i'm not sure about is how to make sure it is going to be the right size for my lenses. It doesn't say how to draft your own size. Do you remember how you figured it out?

I would make the diameter of your base that of the lens, plus a bit of wiggle room, plus seam allowance. Length of the tube bit needs to be length of the lens, plus radius, plus wiggle room, plus the tied bit and everything above. Plus seam allowances, again, of course.

NutellaEllaElla · 26/05/2024 07:52

Thank you @PickAChew , why do you add the radius to the length?

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 26/05/2024 08:20

You add the radius to the length because the drawstring has to pull in that far over the top of the lens.

PickAChew · 26/05/2024 09:34

To. Add, the width of your tube piece needs to be the diameter that you decided on on for the base, not including its seam allowance, multiplied by 3.14 (circumference = diameter x pi) then add on seam allowance. Calculations always need to be done without seam allowance, then it's added on at the end.

So, if your base is 10cm plus a S. A. of 1cm the width of the tube piece needs to be 31.4cm plus SA, so 33.4cm.

Karatema · 26/05/2024 09:38

I'm crocheting at the moment because I've lost my sewjo!
I'm hoping it will reappear by Saturday because I'm booked into my bagmaking club on Saturday and would like to complete a bag possibly a backpack!

NutellaEllaElla · 26/05/2024 16:39

I've made a water bottle carry bag today, to replace one that I lost (along with the bottle). It's a super cute pink remnant I got for £2.

I've got the pattern for the camera lens pouches all ready to go so i'll make a start on that tomorrow.

Has anyone made waves and wild kinjarling dress? I bought the pattern a couple of weeks ago when it was half price.

Sizing advice always welcome. I’m between sizes as usual and hoping there’s enough ease to size down. I can always use the full bust piece if not

bookbook · 26/05/2024 20:15

I have the pattern Jins , but not made it as yet . There is a dedicated waves and wild facebook page which has a lot of help - are you on there ? Lots have made it , with differing ideas of fit etc - its called Team Waves and Wild https://www.facebook.com/groups/wavesandwild/?sorting_setting=CHRONOLOGICAL
