Thanks @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound . So I just do it at the beginning of the first chart row?

Fairislefandango · 23/07/2022 08:00

Oh I meant to include a picture!

That’s gorgeous @Fairislefandango! Lovely spinning! Wrestling with the Jacob batts must make smooth fibres so much more enjoyable to spin in contrast too 😁

That’s what I’d do @MerylSqueak 😃

MerylSqueak · 23/07/2022 08:32

Thank you @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound .

That's amazing!@Fairislefandango

StillNiceCardigan · 23/07/2022 11:19

Sorry you’re still feeling ill @sophs29 I felt like I was not quite better for ages when I had COVID but it went away in the end.

it’s been unbelievably hot here. We had two days of almost 40 degrees then it finally cooled down a bit but it looks hot for the next 10 days but only 24 to 30 degrees this time. The grass in the back garden looks more like straw at the moment!

The spinning seems to be going well @Fairislefandango even if I don’t understand the lingo Grin

sophs29 · 23/07/2022 11:30

Thank you everyone! Hopefully mine passes soon!

@StillNiceCardigan your weather and grass sounds exactly the same as ours! Our back garden is just straw/dry mud with a random few patches of green where I think my DC have watered with their watering cans from the paddling pool 😂

MerylSqueak · 23/07/2022 14:42

Sorry @sophs29 . I missed that. I hope you feel better soon. still taking me a while.

sophs29 · 23/07/2022 20:25

Thank you @MerylSqueak I hope you do too, I'm sure all the other things you've been through haven't helped! Flowers

Hello @Crochetandcats . Nice to meet you. There are lots of talented crocheters here who will totally enable your crafting habit 😀

CrochetBug · 23/07/2022 22:58

Just checking in so I don't lose you all. Still have no crojo at all but have started a massive embroidery project.

Welcome @Crochetandcats

MerylSqueak · 24/07/2022 10:47

Sounds exciting @CrochetBug ! I'm always wondering about embroidery.

Hi @Crochetandcats - sorry about the cancer diagnosis, but glad to hear you're in the process of kicking its butt! And blimey - pregnant too?! I'm not surprised you need a little crochet in your life! Glad you could join us.

Yes you could definitely make a blanket out of your bits and bobs of yarn. There are lots of 'Crochet-Along' type patterns where the instructions were originally released week by week for an online group to crochet together - often a different stitch per section. People often use a colour scheme, but you could also just do random colours, changing for each new stitch section.

I hope all is well with all you crocheters and knitters here.

I will attempt to post a pic of the completed jumpers which were rather difficult. I tried to simplify the blue version which might actually have been a mistake in the long run. The brown one is more like the original pattern but not quite right but it seemed to work.

Am girding my loins for another project.

Fairislefandango · 24/07/2022 20:30

Wow - beautiful cable, @prettyteapotsplease !

I've finally cast on a project with some of my handspun yarn! I decided against the cowl, because my yarn isn't soft enough, so I'm making a simple stocking stitch cushion cover in the white Jacob with a section of the purple and white.

MerylSqueak · 24/07/2022 23:13

Very nice @prettyteapotsplease

Exciting @Fairislefandango what pattern are you doing?

I'm very disappointed with my new wool purchase. It's really difficult to knit with. It's one of those where it splays so much on the needle you are often struggling to see where one stitch ends and another begins. Can't quite imagine doing lace without. I might try it on bigger needles but I'll need to find a new patter. I just wanted the pattern and yarn matching to be easy this time. I retreated to knitting my blanket which is both easy and impressive looking!

Nat6999 · 25/07/2022 01:43

I finished my Bernat Blanket Blanket. I'm just using bits I have left to make a cover for my memory foam pillow I use to prop me up to read in bed. Ds wants me to crochet him a blanket as well.

Fairislefandango · 25/07/2022 09:13

It's this one, @MerylSqueak . Not exactly an exciting pattern, but it should show up my yarn nicely and knit up quickly! It's hard to judge how much yarn I actually have. I don't have much of the purple/white contrast colour, so that section might end up being narrower than in the picture.

It's exciting knitting with my own yarn for the first time though! It sounds a bit silly, but I find myself kind of astonished that I can just knit with it like with bought yarn Grin . And the inconsistency of thickness isn't as obvious as I'd expected.

Hi, I’m a newbie. I’m a 25 year old beginner crocheter and primary school teacher with a 1 or so month old newborn, and I’m really bored as baby dd just wants to sleep and eat, but I can’t go back to work until baby’s not breastfeeding anymore Hmm. I’m loving all this crochet and knitting on here! Not to mention all the beautiful wool! I am not sure what I want my first project to be, maybe something for little dd? Any recommendations of idiot proof suitable for beginners baby or home things to crochet. Thank you!

Fairislefandango · 25/07/2022 10:36

Hi @CantBeArsedToDoAnything - congrats on your new arrival! I didn't learn to knit and crochet until my dc were past the baby stage. I look back and curse the time I spent watching box sets while endlessly breastfeeding, when I could have been crafting!

I'm mostly a knitter, but I'm sure the others will have dome good suggestions for you. When I started crochet I began with some granny squares (still haven’t made anything out of them!), then did a couple of quite big 'crochet-along' blankets, which were fun and a great way to gradually learn new stitches. My first was the seaside stashbuster blanket from the Coastal Crochet website.

CantBeArsedToDoAnything · 25/07/2022 12:34

Thank you! I like the look of that blanket, and it would be good to just pick up and do a row or two when dd is wanting to be fed…..

Fairislefandango · 25/07/2022 12:51

Here's mine (folded up, obvs)! I made it during the first lockdown. My work stopped entirely, so I had a lot of time on my hands!

Here's the beginning of my cushion cover with the little skein of purple/white I'm going to use as the contrast.
